Camber Question
I have a 97 Civic LX and I'm going to order some lowering springs that'll drop the car 2.25 inches. My roommate says that my car may not be able to handle that kinda drop with 17's without a camber kit. Can I get an opinion from somebody who actually knows what they're talking about?

I think you could handle that drop, there will be some tire rub when taking fast corners however.
A camber kit basically pushes out the arms so the tires sit straight up and down, but more than likely with the suspension setup of the civic, your toe and/or caster may be off. |
your tires will most likely have bad camber wear. this means the tires will wear unevenly and you will need to replace them much sooner. this is very common w/ low-profile tires and a drop of over 1.5". i would highly recommend a camber kit. much cheaper in the long run than replacing 17" tires every couple of months.
also, with that kind of drop i would recommend new struts b/c your stock struts will wear out quickly. |
Goodluck running that much drop with 17s. Thats a lot. You better make sure your wheels have a +45mm offset.

i have the same question but instead of 2.25, i am wanting to use eibach sportline springs(1.8 in)

I'm on 17's w/ 45 profile tires, and I'm far from rubbin. 2" drop.

With any drop over 1.5" or so (varies per car) you risk wearing your tires unevenly due to too much negative camber. With a 2.25" drop, you'll almost definitely need a camber kit, but you'll have to watch out that you don't rub.

and without the proper kit you'll be instantly recognizable as the "car whose wheels are rolling at an angle." so a crx like that the other day and just shook my head.

So do you guys think that i'll be ok without a camber kit with a 1.8 or is it just a maybe thing and also will it be ok if i go without aftermarket struts for a while

what, you mean no struts at all or just keep running the stock ones? I've been running the stock ones for almost 2 years. the ride sucks cause they are blown , but suspension isnt my biggest concern right now. you'll be fine. I'd say save up enough for a camber kit, then install your lowering kit. if your wheels look funky, use the cmaber kit.

any drop over 1.5" i'd recommend aftermarket struts due to the additional wear to the stock struts, but you should be able to ride for a little while w/ the stock struts. the ride quality might be bad though.

CAMBER QUESTION
I just had to replace my front tires because of I lowered my car without a camber kit. I just odered some camber kit called R-1 racing sport? Are they good. Also would my tires be ok until I get the camber next week, or would I ****ed them up? thanks a lot,

well they should be ok. camber does not wear the tires as much as toe does. after you get the camber kit installed have the car alinged for toe. it will change drastically once the camber goes to 0
