$$ cash money

I've got the bling bling now.. around 940 dollars.

What should I spend it on?

I want a catback exhaust system that goes on ebay for around 240 shipped, and I think I need a set of good tokico blues, which is about the same price. So that totals to around.. 480. Which leaves me with about 460 bux. I'm thinking about getting a body kit and painting it with whatever money i may have left, or should I get tints first?

Hmm.. any thoughts?

oc civic 01-02-2003 10:46 AM

maybe some nitrous???

ebpda9 01-02-2003 10:50 AM

yeah how about giving me the rest ;) jfwy

i'd say keep the money and save for a swap

pdiggitydogg 01-02-2003 11:44 AM

i agree...go for the swap. dont worry about exhaust and what not for now...youre so close to being able to afford a hell of a lot more power you might as well do it.

Seriously when my tax return arrives im gonna have a hell of a lot of pondering to do whether to simply greddy turbo the D or saved for just a little longer and swap it out for a B16.

ShEaNy 01-02-2003 01:04 PM

swap..or maybe a drop with rims?

Addict 01-02-2003 01:09 PM

Save it.

I don't know what you have done to your car now, but for about $14-1500 you can get a GReddy turbo kit. Just a thought.

iRACEmyCTR 01-02-2003 02:40 PM

invest it wisely....

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 04:24 PM

I've already got the drop + rims. I think I would need to invest some money in a camber kit and tokico struts which will run me about...... 300-400 dollars. That leaves me with about 500 ish dollars. Do you suggest I turbo the d16y7, or swap it?

Different opinions.

pdiggitydogg 01-02-2003 04:32 PM

swap...i personally dont have first hand expirience w/ the y7 but I only hear people b*tching about em and how bad they suck. www.osakajdmmotors.com/ has THE BEST prices on swaps. (you still need linkage and axles though (eGay))

nitrous would give you decent power now AND when you get a swap.. you could EASILY transfer it to the new motor... pluss you would STILL have loot left to work on suspension..

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 05:08 PM

I don't intend to drag my civic, I want power available at all times, ie. turbo, SC, swap.

If I perform the swap, I will also do the manual conversion at the same time. Any thoughts?

oc civic 01-02-2003 05:13 PM

save it all for a swap

thermal 01-02-2003 06:23 PM

How much miles do u have on your ride? You can always get a custom turbo. It'll run you close to that amount.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 06:42 PM

41k .. relatively low i suppose.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 06:43 PM

Oh, and if I did the turbo, I would WANT to do a manual conversion at the same time.. A turbo automatic just does NOT fly with me.

pdiggitydogg 01-02-2003 07:03 PM

yeah 41K is low milage so you really dont have to worry about internal probs if you were to turbo the y7. I definately suggest a manny tranny instal in either case.

actually with a turbo you would want an automatic from a performance standpoint. You will not lose boost during your shifts but you would need to reinforce the tranny to handle the horsepower(unless you just bolt on the greddy). You have a relativley new car, do you have it paid off? If not then don't swap the motor or else you will lose all value along with warranty. Focus on your suspension first so that when you are going fast you won't die, along with your brakes as well(you do have to stop) You can go all motor on your d16 with a gude kit I believe, that'll put an extra 40hp on you. That is the same price as a B series motor without having to swap anything. There are all motor d16's running 12's, if you've got the cash you can make it happen.

I'm not concerned about losing boost during shifts, but I just don't think I want to drive a turbo'd car thats automatic ;). I suppose I could do the manual conversion at the same time as the turbo install, but I would have to purchase a lot of things that could've come with the swap (ECU, tranny etc....). Suspension is coming in the form of new struts, and I guess I could look for a wilwood big brake conversion.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 07:33 PM

Oh, and the car is paid off, so swap = possible.

pdiggitydogg 01-02-2003 08:22 PM

well hell then....SWAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 08:27 PM

Hah. I wonder if this could be a DIY thing. I could rent an engine lift and all other tools. This would most definately be a summer job.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 08:33 PM

:D

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-02-2003 08:35 PM

I could piece together a custom turbo kit tooooooo

pdiggitydogg 01-02-2003 08:38 PM

yep youre at a turbo/swap crossroad for sure...same as me. let me know what you decide and maybe it will help me out...lol

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-03-2003 01:32 AM

I might as well go with a swap. I would have to run high boost to get anywhere near decent, which would require the strengthening of gearbox, forged pistons, etc etc... With a larger motor, i guess .. It'd be better.

You're just trying to talk yourself into that cheap swap you found aren't you? ;)

pdiggitydogg 01-03-2003 09:31 AM

it really should be something that you have to force yourself into. out of all the things that I have read and people that I know that have done swaps every single one of them is 100% happy when its all finished. Whatever it is that you decide to do, make sure its something that you want to do and not something that someone talked you into doing. You need to sit down w/ some paper and right down the pros and cons of each and then make a consciencious (i dont think i spelled that right) decision on what youre going to do. Just take your time and think about it.

ShEaNy 01-03-2003 05:19 PM

I love uuuuuuuu

lolz, I was thinking about buying a 2k black hatch for butt cheap, then dropping in a b18. Come summertime ish.. Sounds like a plan? I can probably sell my car for about 10, get me a nice 2k for about 7-8 G's, swap out the motor with the remaining 2-3 G's (plus savings)

:D

Oh, and I'll slap altezza mania on my car. I should put altezzas on the headlights too. Even though i wont be able to see in the dark, it would look ohhhhhhhh soooooo cool.

pdiggitydogg 01-03-2003 06:44 PM

dont forget all the stickers and neons. Oh and cant leave out the duel front under-bumper fins/canards, fins along the sides, and a triple decker POLISHED aluminum wing, full body decal, and colored window tint, and sparkle body paint. oh and almost forgot....Carbon Fiber EVERYTHING

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-04-2003 06:19 PM

Ok, I'm one to change my mind mannnnnny times.

Well, I was checking out some prices on osaka motors, and I noticed the H22 (JDM) version wasn't too expensive. My question is, whats the difference between the JDM and USDM? I know the JDM makes about 20 hp more, is it because of the higher compression ratio? Or are their engines less restrictive (in exhaust perspective..) I was thinking of purchasing a USDM (w0a cheaper), and doing some flow mods. Passing smog will not be a thing, I've got that covered.... any ideas?

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-04-2003 06:20 PM

Or I could stay with a b18 too.. ..man my panties are in a bundle.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-04-2003 06:23 PM

I mean 1850 for a USDM H22a.. 200 hp.. thats right up my alley :ricer:

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-04-2003 06:23 PM

Not to mention I'll have enough for a LARGE turbo. HAR HAR HAR HAR... (I'd piece together my own kit.)

pdiggitydogg 01-04-2003 06:56 PM

flip a coin...or better yet a dice w/ all the options on it and whatever it is...stick with it :D

ChrisCantSkate 01-04-2003 07:30 PM

the h22 will not ba a DYI project.. the b18 will.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-04-2003 07:59 PM

fuxor.

TeriyakiBroccoli 01-05-2003 01:54 AM

Do all type R engines run higher compression? It would be pointless to turbo a b18c5 or b16b right?
