some tranny tech for dat a$$..

so as pdiggs and some others might know, I'm selling my aftermarket diff and final drive out of my y8 tranny. So, instead of paying some one to take the tranny apart, I did it myself.
So for anyone wondering "what the hell is in there?" this is:

After playing around and seeing how everything comes together, I have no doubt i can do most tranny work myself now.

why are you selling them ?

AzCivic 12-02-2004 05:13 AM

to pay off debt that I stupidly incurred to buy them, and basically I want to stand back for a little and figure out what i'm doing with this damn car.

huh...good to know what it looks like in there.

On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate the difficulty at?
Id like to put an ls 5th set on my future gsr tranny...do you think that its easy enough to do w/ basic hand tools and some time?

depends on what you're doing, if you just open up the tranny and look, like a 3.

if you want to swap out the diff for a lsd, then probably like a 5 or 6. if you want to replace a gear or synchros maybe as high as a 7 or so.

to replace the gears or synchros you're gonna have to use a press to pull the gears off, if the GSR tranny is set up like a d16y8 tranny and all you want to do is replace 5th then you'd press of #'s 6 and 94 and press on your replacement. might as well replace the synchros and bearings if you're at that point though.

yeah, thats what i figured
