JDM Honda H23A Engine

I am wondering if a JDM H23A engine which is a 5 speed manual, would fit in my 97 accord lx which is an auto. is it possible to convert an auto to manual? and also should i make the switch for this engine? (IT PUTS OUT 200 HP!!!)

what up kenc...the engine swap is no problem, y the h23, the h22 is a better engine(dohc vtec) the auto to maunual swap is the one you gota watch. make sure everything is ordered:
appropriate transmission for your car
flywheel and clutch
clutch pedal assmbly, including master cylinders, lines, and slave cylinder or cable for a cable operted clutch
gear shifter assembly, including shift rods or cables, and mounts
cv axles..as most automatic trans axles are different from manual ones
ecu...it's a little pricey...if you need anymore help email me
daveyboi802@yahoo.com BTW how's your djing gig going any upcoming events for me to look out for?

oh yeah...FMAX makes a turbo for the lx accord...I was thinking about installing a FMAX on her 94 ex accord

legally it is not possible. first of all honda ditched the h23 in 1996 and for your car to be legal it has to has a engine the same year with the car or newer. also if you decide to put it in you will need to adapt it from odb1 emissions to odb2, and no h23's were made odb2.

The tranny for the accord and the prelude have the same housing, and if u need to put a manual one, you might have to relocate the tranny mount on the right, next to the battery. Like blown teggy said you need axles for a manual tranny. the left one in an auto accord is 10cm longer than the manual accord. i do not know about the right one thou. the manual should be longer.

and i think that the reason he decided on the h23 is because h23 is not vtec and can properly run on an accord ecu. any complete h22 swap should come with complete engine and intake, manual tranny, original axles, a pair of extra axles, ecu and wireing harness.

hondaman-iac said it all. Also, the H23 only puts on 160, but H22A puts out 200...

ebpda9 04-30-2002 06:28 PM

hey 94 what car do u have ?
no no don't tell me ! i have to guess.

look at that it says it's 200 hp and has vtec. so i'm not sure if they r lying or what. they also said that it is frum the year 1999-2000.

I see TONS of conflicting info, like this title:

JDM Honda H23A VTEC 200hp accord civic H22A

It says H23A and H22A in it. The specs look like H22A, but then below it says larger displacement than an H22, which would be H23. Maybe its an H23 bottom end with an H22 head swap? It this possible with the H series engines?

ebpda9 04-30-2002 08:35 PM

yeha japan has a vtec version of the h23, but those engines are very rare.

azn_nite_ryder 05-01-2002 01:06 AM

i think what is meant is that its a h23 block with a H22 head... now thats an insane engine.... my buddy has that done and its a killing freak... granted tho.. just that alone is about 10K CDN alone!!!! thats without install and parts...
thank goodness for our sponsors....;)

Smitty90acc 05-01-2002 09:57 AM

The ebay advertisement is correct except for one detail. The JDM H23 VTEC was only used in the '98-present Accord AWD Wagon, available only in Japan. It puts out 220 hp. At first I thought that it was an F20B, because of the blue valve cover, but the engine is indeed an H23 VTEC.

It's a really cool engine, but I don't see any reason to get it over an H22 with equivalent mileage (which will undoubtably be cheaper).

djkenc 05-01-2002 12:38 PM

so do u think i should get it or should i go for a h22 instead. how much would it cost...including parts n labor n stuff.

azn_nite_ryder 05-02-2002 12:43 AM

i dunno what prices are in the states.. but up here it around 3000 for everything without labour.. so that's be around $1935 US
some around here you can get for around 2500CDN... 98 prelude engine around 45 000 KM's on it.... now that is cheap....
