D15b VTec
well, after i got word of there actually be a Vtec D15. i decided to check it out. so i look it up and came across these three sites:
asain.vtec purchase them here just some more info now in the first link the engine is said to be a 1.5L 112TQ and 130HP. i do believe if i can find one cheap enough i will purchase it and screw around with it to see what there all about. Do Note: that this motor was not welcome to america when the 92-95 civic same over. till now! damn the import laws. |
are you gonna swap out the engine in your ex for it?
|
what would be the point?
stock lsd tranny, but so what...get aftermarket :) |
Better use the EX tranny! The JDM D15B VTEC tranny is terribly geared. I should know I have one. The D15B VTEC is cheaper than the D16Z. The last time I talked to hmotorsonline it was 1100 dollars for the eng, tranny and ecu.
|
you can get a z6 with decent miles for less most of the time
and local probably |
I really dont get it, why not just save up and get a B16 or higher. B18B's are cheap too. I can get an engine and tranny around here for about $800-1000 local...... sometimes cheaper....
I'm not into swapping from SOHC to DOHC, but if you are about to do one because your current set-up is messed up or blown, why not get a B-series engine? |
im only buying the D15B vtec to mess around with. plus for as cheap as this one site i found. it really isnt cost me major bucks. 250 buck plus shipping. they are within pick up instead of delivery. so why not? can you give me a reason?
yes i already planned on swapping out the D16 for a B18c1. i figured i will swap out the d16 for the d15b till i get my car loan pid off and then get a loan for the B18c1. sell off the D15B to the place i get the B18c1. Pdigg the Z6 is slower. has less tq and hp. the d15b out preformed the z6. so ill pass on a z6. tengo thanks for the advice on keeping the EX trannying. i read that the VT1 do have crappy gear ratios. |
swapping in that engine would be a waste of time, it makes 128hp and 102.5ftlbs of torque, both at a higher RPM than the z6 does. you'll end up with a slower car.
|
how im running a 125hp
|
well how bout this? do a freinkenstien project.
put a D16 head on it. |

and making more torque... if you want a nice little(cheap) increase in power swap out the stock pistons for some cheap oem high compression pistons out of the zc or gx, put in a zex cam, you'll be spankin b16's all day. |

why? theyre both vtec heads, you'll get a little bump in compression on the d15 but thats it. |
its a project and a way to learn how to do things mechanically for cheap. is it not? plus i always wanted to see how this really worked and get my own personal spec off the motor. everyone has different readings.
either way for 250 bucks this can be that bad. |
its gonna cost more than 250$ when its all done with. save the money and just take out and reinstall the motor thats already in the car, if you really just want to learn.
its your time and money though. |
i dont know.
i just figured for 250 bucks why not. |
why not spend that $250 on the motor you have? like on high compression pistons.

dude, you always beat me to it..... |

I guess I just look at it different. If I have the same intentions as you, which is to learn the tech behind that engine, I would just read up or fix a few of my friend's SOHC engine. But who am I judge, I spent close to $1K for GReddy gauges alone . To each, his own........ Goodluck |
thanks. i already got the plans for the b18c1 and hondaman is cutting me a deal for suspension mods.
well only time will tell what i plan to do. |
