Ok..I have a question

I drive a 97 Honda Accord LX with Auto Tranny

Ok..well..i start out with "D4" gear..it get to about 3-4k RPM.
Then i shift to "D3" gear...and it went up to 5-6k RPM.

Now the question is..if i shift it down to "2" Gear...wouldn't it goes past redline to 7-8k?

I haven't try this because I'm afraid that going over the redline will mess up my engine or whatever.

I don't think it will go over redline (but you better wait for an auto guy to respon.)

My question is this. Why do you drive like that? Why start in D4 and then downshift twice? If you want your auto to last, drive it like it was meant to be driven.

I dunno...it lags driving on D4..so if shift to D3 to get the boost..then i shift back up to D4 for the speed...i never did shift down to 2..i was just wondering what happen if i did though.

Oh ok, I thought you meant you'd launch in D4, shift to D3, etc. when you were trying to drive fast off the line.

your rev limitter will kick in at a certain point.. You wont be able to swing it deep in the red..

You really shouldnt be playing with your tranny like that. Put it in D4 and step on the pedal as much as you want, and let the tranny decide the gears.

lol....i shift into 2nd sometimes when someone wants race...it goes about 4000-5000 for me....not redline...and i just stomp it..get a good burst of speed then back to D3 then D4...no tranny problems....yet:o  ;)

i don't know about other accord but on mine i threw the needle past the redline :ouch: don't do it anymore or your tranny will blow. if u really wanna fix up the lag suspens the car, remove the wheels and rev to 5000k in every gear including reverse, then as soon you stop the engine remove the tranny oil drain plug and let it drip, then add 2qt to the tranny witout the drain plug. put the plug back in and fill it up to the level.

sup...i have a 4 cyn auto...when i raced a v6 accord....i shift from D4 - 3 -2...then back to 4...then i went ALL the way to 1...this gave me a HUGE boost....i never hit red line...although i was close....the v6 only beat me by like 1/2 - 1 kar...thats amazing....but it was worth it...just dont do it too often

That doesn't even make sense. Why not start from the lowest gear?

no cuase when u start on 4...and go to 3...u kinda have a boost...ur rpm jump...but when u go down even lower..to 1 or something....it jumps reallie high

Yeah, when I downshift from 2nd to 1st it gives me a boost, but you don't see me launching in 2nd.

Anyway, why don't you go the track and compare times?
