the next STEP in this board

which would do you choose is best?

KwikR6 03-27-2007 03:15 PM

I like the old name...

IALuder 03-27-2007 08:25 PM

ok eight people vote but one post why they choose which...

GT40FIED 03-27-2007 09:17 PM

I voted for the old name just because I like it well enough and I'm too lazy to think of a new one. If someone's got a better name I'd be willing to change my mind.

blind34_1 04-01-2007 02:30 AM

well, unless I am mistaken, just about everyone that is currently still around, or even remotely around (like me), were here when the site was called by its original name. seems only fitting to go back.

Kalvin 04-01-2007 06:00 PM

Renaming the "hstuners" to something like "honda style tuners" around the forum is easy, but getting back the .com would be tough. Honda's lawyers got their panties in a bunch and confiscated the domain back in 8/04

I may have gotten the last hurrah when I went shopping for a new car four months later and didn't even consider stepping foot onto a honda dealership.

IALuder 04-01-2007 08:07 PM

so why cant we use it? do they own it? if so we would have to buy it?

damn.

ChrisCantSkate 04-02-2007 08:30 AM

legal issues, cant use hondas name. trademarked, would be free and false advertising for the site

ebpda9 04-02-2007 10:14 AM

how about www.honda.net????

ChrisCantSkate 04-02-2007 10:21 AM

anything with honda in it they can sue you for, its a trademarked name, you cant use it for your own personal gains(ie, traffic, search engine results, or any other way which makes the site with honda in it) it makes the false presumption that the site in question is a child company or afilliate of the actual morot company. trademarks are protected under federal law, so the chances of winning the suit, expecially after their 04 case in which the precident was set, is about 0

GT40FIED 04-02-2007 11:52 AM

What about using "Honda" in the name with a ".org" suffix? I mean, .org is reserved for any site that is not for profit. I don't think it would be too hard to prove that this site is not for profit. It might have ads, but I really don't think Kalvin is making money off of this site. And since Stefan no longer uses the Styledright name I don't see a problem there.

ChrisCantSkate 04-02-2007 12:48 PM

im only about 95% sure, but i think anything with "honda" in it is in violation of the 04 suite, and it a copyright and or trademark infringment. its like having microsoft.org, and have something remotly related to software, but just talk about it. it misrepresents the company as a 3rd party would or could assume that it has something to do with the real company. the uninformed could then come to the assumption that anything on the site in question is backed by the host company, which it is not, which could bring about unwanted and unjust lawsuites on the real company, and in turn, the site not affiliated with said company, if any information found on the site has not had the research behind it that the host company would want to have done before recommending their consumers to try anything to their product.

you can slice it a number of ways, anything from the how-to section not being 100% at hondas standard, to recommending aftermarket parts which honda would not stand behind, then if anything on your car goes wrong, and you feed the line "well on some *honda*.* site it said it was ok" now they have to take legal actions to shift blame from them to the site owner. but since they own the name honda, they have legal rights to it, so by saying no one can use their name without permission, they help make themselves more secure when it comes to liability and false advertising with their name.

sorry for the long winded legal type responce, my law classes are doing it to me.

GT40FIED 04-02-2007 04:06 PM

While that does make sense, what about the bigger sites that have continued to use the Honda name? I mean if anyone is going to say "I went to a Honda website and they said to do this", you'd think it'd be more inline with a site like Honda-Tech.

ChrisCantSkate 04-02-2007 05:00 PM

honestly, i dont know why they didnt change, i know a buch did, a few didnt. could be legal battles behind the scenes, grandfathered in or whatnot, but like i said, im not 100% but i think its next to impossible to get a *honda*.* name now and not have them send you a little notice

blind34_1 04-02-2007 05:22 PM

ahh i forgot to check to see who now owns the hondastyle.com name. its Honda themselves. those bastards.

I vote for the old name back.

Racing Rice 04-05-2007 02:03 PM

How about Fuckhonda.com then. :D

IALuder 04-05-2007 06:08 PM

hmmmm interesting. i think it might work. :D

we might have to actually think of a new name.

KwikR6 04-13-2007 11:11 AM

ok i guess it's time to think of a new name for the site. Becuase if Honda actually owns www.hondastyle.com then that's out. so time to start brainstorming.

KwikR6 04-13-2007 11:16 AM

ok here is the thread for new names
