150.3db

Is 150.3 db still a lot for two subs. I used to be into audio a few years back. I was hitting that consistantly...then my hearing started to go bye bye really quick. So, it all got sold.

The end...

Accord Man 01-09-2003 09:49 AM

well it is a lot.. It wont get you too much attention in a competition though..

Its still not easy to reach that, even though more and more people are now capable of doing it..

speedracerTA 01-12-2003 11:32 AM

What was your setup, car, subs amp, etc? That seems pretty good for 2 12"s. It would be a good score in the lower classes. Was that for daily driving as well?

Dr Drew 01-12-2003 12:20 PM

93 civic hatch
blaupunkt head unit, 0awg power wire, two SVR batterys, lightning audio breakers, US 400 amp running 2ohm bridged powering two 15" Cadence bass pros. US amp X-over. Two US 25's powering rgt and lft Candence componites 2 ohm mono

in airplane taking off is in an open environment. stuff that into a car and see what you'll get in the dB meter:o not to mention 140db of 2000hz is going to be worse than 150db of 40hz.;)

One of my buddies is a rep for Poweracoustik.. So he basically get to try all of their stuff..

After many attempts to try to sound decent, here's his conclusion

Poweracoustik = CRAP..

Poweracoustik has never sounded good.. And the build quality just is good enough for SPL

So I wish your friend good luck!

C's 94 InTeGrA 01-23-2003 10:45 PM

Trust me it sounds really good.. it hits 10 times harder than the Pioneer Dual voice coiled IMPP's which is wat i got.. he hit 148.5 with 3 of the Pioneer's and running on 3 Pioneer 760's and 2 480 amps and 2, 2 farit MA audio powercaps..

GSteg 01-25-2003 04:29 PM

i got up to 147dB with my single E15K;) how's that for a SQ sub? (bought it for $136 shipped) anyways, 150db is a great score.

even with 2 15's thats still a great score. i'd be happy to even hit 150 with 3 15's ;)

SofaKingSmooth 01-27-2003 05:09 PM

My boy has 2 15's hitting 152.....

Shaved &/or Laid 02-10-2003 07:52 PM

imma gon run 2 Concept 15's 800 watts RMS each, but in a sealed prefab box. Donno what ill hit.

accordracer84 03-25-2003 10:25 PM

People, people, people hitting a certain DB almost has ALMOST nothing to do with size of the sub, or the power you get to it. It all has to do with the box. I promise you i know a guy that can build a box with ONE 10 and make it hit 150 DB and it will not be a kicker sub. It all depends on the effeciency of the sub in the box and what it is tuned at. Whoever said that they're friend is going to hit 150 with power acoustik, if he does i will shit in my hand and eat it. He's probably using PA amps which i know are overrated. Let's hook those sub's up to a Zapco or soundsteam amp and see how good they hold up. If you wanna know what kind of box to build PM and i'll give you details and be ready for a challenge!

GSteg 03-26-2003 12:22 AM

people, people, people putting a specific brand of amp on a subwoofer has ALMOST nothing to do with how many watts the amp will put out. it all has to do with the circuit board and how much it puts out. hell..a 400 watts RMS PA amp puts out more power than a zapco that puts out 300 watts RMS. i know a guy that has 300 watts to a 12" and he can make it hit very high numbers, and its not a JL. it depends on the power you give it, car, box, and subwoofer. if someone hits 150db with 1 10", i will shit in my pant and make you eat it. jk;) small zapco amps (studio150)aren't going to put out over 1000 watts RMS even though its underrated. hook it up to a PA amp that does 1000 watts and see how that box holds up. if anyone wanna know what amp to get, email me and be ready for some watt-whooping!

who are you talkinga bout?

accordracer84 03-27-2003 12:08 AM

I really hope your ready to eat your own shit because i'll be over at the guy that's built my box and is finishing up putting my friends 3 12" W3 in his car. I'll get the sub you'll need, and the box. GSteg do you know anything about electronics and math? I gaurantee that a 400W supposedly PA amp does not do that much because i was just in the car audio shop today and guess what kind of amp he had in a tahoe? A PA and the owner said that it was rated at something like 1200W and it had only 1 20amp fuse. What that means is that more then likely that this amp could not draw enough power to blow the 20 amp fuse so it probably only could put out about 200W. How in the hell can you compare a 150W amp to a 1000W PA amp, it make's no sense. I have a Zapco AG1000 and i will bet that if you put a PA amp that is rated the same as the Zapco and put them on the same subs and box and wire it up bridged at 4 ohms that the Zapco would never die and it would sound better. Go to the USAC website and they're is somebody that hit 164DB in the 0-150W class so once again power has nothing to do with DB. I would like to apoligize to everybody except GSteg, you can put anything you want on your car and i will not judge you but when you say stuff that is false or an opinion then back it up with something. Buy what you want with your own money but in the end you get what you pay for and i just wish that stereo companies would actually provide people with accurate specs instead of advertising a 3000W amp that they no doesn't do that.

GSteg 03-27-2003 08:36 AM

i don't know...i do i know anything about electronics? i'll let the other guys decide on that....

if you have read carefully..i didn't say the PA amp will do its rated power. i said it will put out "X" amount of power regardless of what its rated at. it will put something out for sure, let it be 100 watts or 500 watts. its going to put out something. i'm not comparing RATED power, i'm talking about BENCHED power. one amp that truely does 400 watts will have more power than an amp that does 300 watts regardless what brand it is. again, BENCHED power, not rated power.

my point was that brand does not matter as far as power output after it has been benched. the one that benched high will have more power, even if its a pyramid amp having more power than and MTX amp. so i was arguing with " Let's hook those sub's up to a Zapco or soundsteam amp and see how good they hold up". thats a very ambiguous statement.

they is someone that hitted 164db in the 0-150 watts class? i'm willing to bet that person is using a cheater amp, found commonly in those lower classes.

if my statement is false, then yours is too. just because one amp that is high quality like zapco doesn't mean its gonna put more power out than any other PA amps and such.

Dr Drew 03-27-2003 11:50 PM

I once hit 200 db with a single 8" sub.
It's easy ppl, just stick the mic in the port !!
my whole point is if you take amp A and compair it to amp B it'll smoke the shit outta amp C !! It's all about the watts yo...
This one headly truck one time had two 12" sparkomatics, yo those things knocked yo... he hit a 165db with only a 20 watt sparkomatic power booster !!
Then I was walking down the street and realized I was on ten and turner man... crazy sheit yo !!
That shizzy was off the hizzy !!

GSteg 03-28-2003 12:01 AM

where can i find out more about this sparkomatic power booster? i need to grab 4 of those!;)

Yeah, granted this was accomplished in a First Gen Civic, it was still rather impressive for a single 10" and only Two Viper audio 2500d's.

If IIRC nate toyed around with a 10W7, supposidly there was only a couple tenths of a DB difference between the two. Now honestly I wasn't there to see it first hand. So I could be off on that.

Yes it was a Digigtal Designs 9510.

GSteg 05-02-2003 05:32 PM

that car is so preped up that you can literally take almost any driver out there and hit crazy numbers with it.

Which should tell people that it has alot more to do with box design than actual driver that plays the critical role.
