Tell me your 1/8 miles times.

I have a Civic Ex '93 with these:
Dc Sports 4-2-1
2 1/4 pipping with Hooker maximun Flow exhaust.
Upgraded ECU
Short Shifter
Dunlop 205-50/R16 Tires
16" Wheels
Bypass Trick
Matrix Intake

My currently BEST time is 12.60s.
I think thats preatty bad for my car.. I want to know what are the times that ppl are doing here..
Thanks!

ShagginJet 11-04-2002 02:12 PM

wow, that's ****ed, that means that your 1/4 mile time is like 25.80, and that's a really shitty time. I think my 1980' datsun b210 ran like a 22.50 or something... i could smoke your civic, lmfao.

Honda530 11-04-2002 02:20 PM

ouch yeah hats not good. It doesnt mean your 1.4 is gonna be twice that though. My fastest et in my car was 16.93 and my 1/8 was between 10 and 11 at like 64 mph. So your looking at 18-19s:(

lol
What could be wrong with my civic?

4jacks 11-04-2002 10:16 PM

assuming that your acceleration is Constant, which more than likely will not be exactly constant,
Your 1/4 mile time would be 17.81 Seconds
Not 25.8 seconds
To get 25.8 seconds you would have to run 1/8 miles, stop the car and run a second 1/8 mile

Jesus man. No offense but some driving lessons are in order. What exactly is your "upgraded ECU'? Lose the matrix intake and get an AEM Cold Air. WHat short shifter do you have? And what's a 'bypass trick'?

No tryin to be harsh.....

I'm by no means a great driver either....

1) No taken, I think I need some lessons..
2)I dont have a redline anymore, and my Vtec connects earlier.
3)Would that help? I think thats like 1 - 2 Hp gain, am I wrong?
4)Generic
5)To bypass the cooler through the throttle body that way that piece will not get to warm.. Its a trick thats around the Internet.

Recomendations?

The reason I said this is that I had a 98 EX Auto that ran 16.0 with intake, exhaust & plug wires. Of course that car ran like no other.....

Is your clutch in good condition? No slipping?

The AEM will pull colder air. It won't be feeding off your engine's hot air supply. I would suggest nitrous. But my thought is that if you can't hit at least 10.5 in the 1/8 with what you have, then you need more practice. Do you have any additional weight?

How many times have you ran? Post up your 60ft times.

ChrisCantSkate 11-05-2002 09:45 AM

10.5's? i think thats a little high. when i ran 15.0's i was running 9.9's

1)Whats slipping?
2)Additional weight? When I run I run with all stuff inside: Seats, 5th tire, sometimes with  GirlFriend .
3)Putting some cables AND an AEM Fuel Rail would help?

Of course classes would help! lol The wierd thing is that when I ran with 2 different Civic LX 1600cc No Vtec they won... ;(

Jrscb16A2 11-05-2002 08:19 PM

ahhh, come on guys!

my 1/8 mile best is a 9.05.....quarter mile best is a 13.7

the GF could be hurting your times upto .1-.2 seconds

Senshi 11-05-2002 08:39 PM

alright, take the seats out, the gf out (no offense but she weights at least 100lbs, guessing), drop the spare fix a flat will do, if you got subs, take them out before racing, and lastly if you don't know already, learn where your grip point is

and slipping is when you change gears and you let off the clutch, but it takes a while to go to the next gear, it will like hang in the previous gear before it goes into the one you told it to go into

and it may stray from the questoin, but i suggest lowering a bit

WTF are those things! Need a teacher ASAP!

Senshi 11-05-2002 09:07 PM

ok take the spare out, its below in your trunk, fix a flat is hardcore, it just goes in your tire and fixes it

subs make bass, if you have them take them out

the grip point is were you start to move when you take the clutch out

damn you really do need classes

ooooo I got it...
I dont have subs and I'll have the spare out but the spare is like a 3 pounds but something is something.

The grip point I know it very well...

How do u guys see my engine?

Dude how and the hell did you get a auto civic ex with intake and exhaust to run a 16.0. the 5spds cant even do that?????

Senshi 11-05-2002 09:33 PM

*cough*NOS*cough*

Jrscb16A2 11-05-2002 09:51 PM

ahhh

when you ran the 16 what was your trap speed and your 60 foot time?

Addict 11-05-2002 11:24 PM

Re: ahhh

You run with your girl in the car!?!? Ok now. Take her out of the car, remove the spare & subs if you have them. And work on your launch. I'd say 4000-4500RPM. Somewhere in there you'll find your sweet spot.

Judging by the name, I'd just guess that's boosted. ;)

I'm sure 5 speeds could do that. Its not that far fetched.

Nope. That was without the juice. I ran slower, 16.1, with the juice. Mostly because I decided to flip the switch at the line. Lack of traction tends to make you have a slower time.

I don't recall. Its been about 2 years or so. I'm thinking it was about 84 on the trap. And I can't really give you a good guess on the 60ft.

Sad thing is that for some reason I can't seem to beat a 16 with my Si. The again I've only been once and only been driving stick for a year. I finally got my 17's (heffer ass rims) off so I'll be going this Thurs provided they are open.... I hate winter.

Jrscb16A2 11-05-2002 11:54 PM

ah yes

yes deff. boosted...I fixed up a sig...

Honda530 11-06-2002 06:20 PM

Jeeze Im sorry I just dont see how a civic ex could do that with just intake and exhaust. The 97 Ex 5spd will run high 16s and the auto runs 17s. Is it still teh same engine the d16 whatever. Its just ahrd to believe. Is it a hatchback or a coupe?? man I must be doing something wrong because my accord with .6 more liters in teh engine and cai, exhaust only managed a 16.93. oh well.

Promo2000 11-06-2002 07:00 PM

I think something thats is NOT helping are my 16"Rims, I will change for a 14" Rims.
Would It help?

Jrscb16A2 11-06-2002 10:23 PM

it all depends....smaller wheels does not always = better time people like to think that but the truth is say you have 16 inchs wheels and 50 series tires and the wheel weighs 20 lbs each....you would actually get better times with a 17 inch wheel that weighed 13 lbs each with 40 series tires, its all about the weight of the wheel.....if you go down to a 14 inch wheel with 65 series tires and they are the same weight as your 16 inch with (I assume 50 series tires) your going to get around the same time unless the 14's weigh many many lbs less.

Depends if she's hot, and what she weights.

My 15's only weight 10lbs each, with the 205/50's on them, they are still super light. Plus i get max traction on 205/50's.

It doesn't matter if you run an automatic or not. My car some how knows when i want to drive quick. It'll hold my in first till i let up, then i have control over 2nd and 3rd so i can do the rest.

Its very possible. Autos don't run 17's. High 16's...
It was a coupe. Same engine. AEM CAI, GReddy SP exhuast, ACCEL plug wires, Eibach Sportline Springs, & ZEX Nitrous. Stock 14" steelies.

Accords generally are slower. I don't know what model you have, but they tend to weigh more too.

your forgeting rotatinal mass. larger rims move the most weight of the wheel outwards making it require more tq to spin them. my 16;b 17's are hurrting me more than my old 19lb 15's were... too bad i sold them

Yep. I'm thinking of selling my MR7s. I just swapped to my 15" stock rims. There's a 10lb difference (per wheel) between the 2. 30lb for stockers with rubber, 40lb for MR7s with rubber.

ChrisCantSkate 11-07-2002 08:04 AM

damn, those are heavy... i wonder what mine are with tires

Exactly, I was just going to say that. Its all about how far the mass is located from the center. Its a torque thing ;)

Honda530 11-07-2002 02:57 PM

How much does a 98 civic Ex weigh??
I know my 96 accord dx weighs less than 3000.

I just dont think a auto civic vs a auto accord will win depending on year. If its from 91-97 the accord will win if its a 98 and above and 4 clyinder the civic should win. The 5th gens are notas heavy as most people think.

This post wasn't about whether or not an Accord will beat a Civic. Not real sure why your going at that angle.
Was your 16.93 run with or without your subs?

1998 Civic EX Coupe
Horsepower: 127 hp
Max Horsepower: 6600 rpm
Torque: 107 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 5500 rpm
Weight: 2504 lbs.

1996 Accord DX Sedan
Horsepower: 130 hp
Max Horsepower: 5300 rpm
Torque: 139 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4200 rpm
Weight: 2855 lbs.

Based on the specs, its not hard to see how a Civic could beat an Accord.

1998 Accord Sedan DX
Horsepower: 135 hp
Max Horsepower: 5400 rpm
Torque: 145 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4700 rpm
Weight: 2888 lbs.

Its 33lbs heavier than the 96 Accord, but makes more power. I don't see how you can say its slower.

Promo2000 11-07-2002 05:13 PM

Ok, I weighted both rims with rubber.
185/60/R14 = 32 pounds
205/50/R16 = 37 pounds
5 pounds would make a difference?

Whtehnda93DXSdn 11-08-2002 11:25 AM

93 Sedan 1.5 SOHC ran 16.4 @ 84.77 in the 1/4 and I think it's about 10.5 or so in the 1/8 but not sure cause I haven;t run a 1/8 alone as of yet..
