lsvtec vs GSR

Hey everyone, I was looking into putting a ls/vtec into a 97 dx and would build the block and head but now am thinking about a built up gsr turbo. I know the ls has lower compression which is good for turbo and what not but I don't know too much about the gsr, except for the vtec is already in the head eliminating the need for a b16 one.

personally i'd say the gsr just because oem vtec tends to be more reliable than a head swap. i forget if the blocks are built different besides the size, but i know on preludes the h22 block has a couple of features(most notable: the oil squirters in the sleeves) the h23 dosnt.

my friend is turboing his GSR around springtime, expecting it to be running 12's I think he said.. He just got an eight grand loan for his engine though so :P

^and that helps how? no offense

yea, ill check to see what exactly is differently between to two. so i dont fun into a H series problem.

I don't know if you found this or saw it already but it's got a lot of info about your question....http://www.hstuners.com/forums/showt...ht=ls%2Fvte c

thanks. no i did not see that article.

just remember, if you build the GSR motor, you'll be able to pick the compression you want anyway. so it just really depends on how much power you want to achieve and the capacity of the turbo.

i dont mind LSVTEC. it just has to be built right. i know so many local people, including close friends who have done LSVTEC/CRVTEC set-up with no problems in years now. if you decide to do LSVTEC turbo, I strongly advice a proper build up on the internals. the oil squirters on VTEC blocks are important. Since LS blocks dont have squirters, you must pick the right pistons to compensate that. The Omni Power-USA tech line can give you some great advices on that..... Later

thanks, i think im going to go GSR less of a hassel.

I agree with Therm, even though I sold my GSR motor to build a b20vtec, don't mind that part :)

With the GSR, you'll still get to choose your compression because it's not neccessarily low enough for boost yet not high enough for a naturally aspirated set up. I still shine to think that this Non VTEC to VTEC plus TURBO doesn't seem to be the best idea. I can say that building my B20vtec with reliability took a nice chunk out of my bank account. Aren't GSR sleeves stronger, anyway?

thermal 01-01-2005 08:26 PM

not sure about the strength difference in sleeves. I'm under the impression that it's the same. After all, the material and bore is the same.

IALuder 01-01-2005 08:29 PM

i figured they would be the same. both from a B series.
