clutch flywheel for d16
What brand/retailer does everyone suggest...
Mine's on it's last legs I'm SURE it's down the the rivets for the second time so I'm gunna want to replace the flywheel too... |
Id just buy an exedy clutch off ebay for like $90 and then hunt down a matching exedy flywheel elsewhere.
I dont think Id need anything more than that. They make good stuff. |
for performance i'd suggest ACT
but just for a stock replacement go w/ what pdigg's said. |
i have a act stage 2 clutch in my hatch and it sucks, i hate it, it made shifting so stiff, that sometimes it doesn't go into gear.
|
ACT doesnt sell their clutches in "stages" so please provide more info. my guess is that you bought a clutch that grossly outmatched your power output, and due to lack of research you're now paying the consequences.
|
hmmm.... the clutch made shifting stiff? or do you mean the clutch pedal was really tough?
Anyway, I do agree with what pdiggs and AZ said. www.prostreetonline.com sells them exedy stuff pretty cheap.... but talk to Hondaman-iac, he can probably beat their price. Clutch Masters are not bad neither. |
I Have a ACT street disc and flywheel and love them both... two thumbs up for ACT:yes:
|
I can get exedy for next to nothing through my friends shop... however I want to replace the flywheel too... I've got 202k miles on the car and it's gunna get some extra power over the next year or so as it's now my second car.
SO the clutch is literally minutes from going... hopefully I'll be able to make it down to my buddies shop. as far as the flywheel is concerned... ACT seems to offer 2 (I think) a 12.5lb and a 8.8... I've heard horror stories (well not horror but P.I.T.A drivability) about flywheels that are "too" light... ANyone have any experience with the 8.8? that seems light but again this is my second car so drivability isn't my primary concern... but it is a concern... I HATE having a car that you have to goose at a stop light to keep it running. |
oh and any ideas on prices would be good too... so far I've seen the ACT flywheel for 214 and 230 or so lighter being more expensive.
|
I used to have the lighter one(the prolite) and I didn't any issues at all, none, zip, zilch, nada.
you'll notice a big difference just going to the heavier streetlite though. oh, and those prices seem about right, but i believe i've seen the streetlite for like $199 somewhere. |
I just found a place that sells them in kits with the light flywheels and full clutch kit for 419 for it with a stock replacement clutch or 479 for the street modified clutch...
http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/a...lywheel_combo/ I'm not sure where that lays in the line of clutches for them as they have severall.... but the ACT site says it's third in line stock then modified stock then performance modified http://www.advancedclutch.com/kitcode.asp I think I may go with that combo... the lightest flywheel and the most performance street clutch... although my cars pretty stock as it is... but a turbo is in my plans for the future. Thanks for all the input everyone. |
That place actually sells a some different "kits"
http://www.prostreetonline.com/store...lywheel_combo/ I may get one of the cheaper ones... not sure though. |
i have the ACT HDSS(heavy duty press plate w/ street *something or another* disk) clutch, its great.
|
if you're really trying to cut costs, sohfast.com sell stock flywheels that have been machined down to 10.5lbs, i ran one for like a year and didnt have one problem. when i took it out it looked great.
|
I was thinking about that... or even machining my own... I may look into that but I'm a bit warey of the idea... but I am a cheap ghetto bastard and it would fit with my them of "junkyard honda"
|
like I said, i didnt have one problem, even after many trips down the 1/4, and its only 125bucks. you have to send in your old one though.
|
well that place I linked to is having a sale so it's actually a 10 dollar diference between the ACT flywheel with the HDSS clutch kit and the sohfast shaved stocker plus the HDSS clutch kit...
I think if I ordered the clutch kit and flywheel from sohfast it would actually be MORE expensive than the package at the other place... I gotta see if I can do this. |
if the price difference isnt much then yeah definitly go w/ the act
