The best internet connection.

I didnt inclue T1 or T3 cause i could never get them. lol.

94_AcCoRd_EX 01-27-2003 09:35 PM

56k.

Actually, it depends where you're located and how far away from the "station" you are for DSL.

Kyle 01-27-2003 09:46 PM

yeah..
i'm disapointed with my DSL...it pretty much sucks ass compaired to the local cable services...I've heard good things about sattelite DSL thogh...

94_AcCoRd_EX 01-27-2003 09:48 PM

I heard that satellite has to much delay to make it good for gaming...

ebpda9 01-27-2003 09:55 PM

i love DSL

a96710 01-27-2003 09:57 PM

We just upgraded from years of 56k to cable a few months ago. Man what a world of difference

DumbMoFo 01-27-2003 10:08 PM

Optimum Online.

I have noticed situations with my satellite tv where if the weather is bad, I lose reception, so I am skeptical of the capabilities of satellite for internet.

Maxvla 01-27-2003 11:16 PM

i only use DSL but i voted cable cause it really is the best.

however in order for me to have cable i hafta sign up for digital cable as well... which starts at 48 a month plus 40 a month for cable internet. total 88 a month.

whereas i use my $20 phone line with 39 a month dsl and get comparable speeds, pings, etc. total 59 a month.

which would you choose ;)

Racing Rice 01-28-2003 06:50 AM

I love my cable.. Wouldnt have it any other way. Its the best 40$ a month you'll spend.

blind34_1 01-28-2003 07:25 AM

it all sucks. big corporations charging outrageous prices in exchange for bad service, and limited capabilities. In a perfect world, I would chose cable. best hardline broadband a civilian can get.

RU_Teg 01-28-2003 08:29 AM

I have DSL...its pretty ****in' fast as long as your computer isnt all messed up...but umm Cable is better...

It is. It has a very high latency (ping).

Quevv 01-28-2003 05:44 PM

I would agree that satilite internet is the suck, it has to reconnect to often. Overall i'd go with cable:bow:

ChrisCantSkate 01-28-2003 06:08 PM

im happy with my college network... but since thats not a choice.. DSL cause thats all ive used/been happy with besides this t1 or t3 or whatever they hooked me upto

ebpda9 01-28-2003 07:12 PM

no more dsl lovers here ? cable kind of sucks around here

Kyle 01-28-2003 07:33 PM

it's the opposite here...my parents got a deal on our comp, that came with dsl...thats why we got it...pretty cheap...
We were gonna get road runner...but then we found the deal..and went for it...

Maxvla 01-28-2003 07:55 PM

i love dsl. but cable offers faster speeds. which makes it the best.

however it is so far overpriced it outrageous. but we aren't discussing prices.. we are talking technically which is better.

That's funny. Here, DSL would cost me $5 more per month than my cable, plus I'd have to get a phone line instead of just using my cell. Cable is much cheaper, and I save another $10/month when i buy digital cable with it.

Maxvla 01-29-2003 03:16 AM

digital cable...

thats the expensive part. cheapest package here is 48 a month.

Yeah, but we're not required to buy it for the internet service :)

That's probably the most accurate test I've come across.

Also do a tracert and see if you losing alot of packets at a certain point. Check out http://www.visualware.com/download/index.html . That should help you out.

Use the Visual Route program I gave you the link to. Look in the packet loss column. That's the important part.

Wow. Those are HORRIBLE latencies.
Here's a link to what mine looks like.
http://www.digitaldeviation.com/vsreport/report.html

Granted I have less hops since I'm closer, but the latencies never go above 100. You need to have TW look into this.
