a few questions

Ok got a few questions,
first off for anyone who has or knows someone who has it, does the MSD ignition box or coil show any actual gains in a nonheavily modified vehicle?
any gains for things such as AEM cam gears or Unorthodox pulleys?
what are some pros and cons to to these above mentioned products?

when i think of more I'll post em, thanks for the help guys

*edit* oh yeah, how about highflow cats? they worth anything at all?

Well...I don't know exactly which box you'd run on a Honda, but the MSD analog 6-series boxes are crap. I've been through two until I got the Digital 6 setup. The analog boxes can't take the engine heat and crap out...usually within a year unless you splice the wires longer and move the box into the cabin. As for gains...you won't really see much, if anything, in the power department on an unmodified or mildly modified motor. It does, however, usually make a cleaner, more complete burn. I liked mine...but I didn't like the idea of always replacing them. The Digital and DIS systems will last longer, though since there's no analog circuitry.

thanks, but by cleaner burn I would assume that your MPG would go up with it, am I assuming correctly?

Depends on the car...sometimes it does. It certainly won't hurt it. But by using multiple sparks it can burn off more of the gas that regular ignitions won't get. It's pretty helpful if you have to go in for emissions testing, too.

I can imagine, the reason I'm asking btw is because I was gonna be moving out so I saved some money up. well that fell through so now hell I may just spend some more on my car, but first I'm gonna be buying new neuspeed springs to replace my coilover which are set tooooo low and locked into place somehow. the camber is just tearing apart at my 4 month old tires, I can see the belt on the front left:o fuck
but after I raise the car back up alittle I'm just trying to get an idea for a few small things I can do. aside from getting my tranny checked cause its making god awful sounds when it goes through 1.5k-2k rpms.

i had the msd6a with the blaster 3 coil and i was pretty happy with it. never had a problem with it. as soon as i installed it my mpg went from 23 to 29mpg. also the car was a lot more responsive to the throttle inputs. and it was mounted in the engine bay.

thats quite an increase in gas mileage...damn, might think about getting it in that case

ebpda9 10-15-2004 01:16 PM

well still you will see the benefits in about 1-2 years even with the gas prices now

the MSD boxes are made to go under the hood, mines by my headers and have been there for a year and a half and its fine
