No Clue
 

So I started doing some clean up on the engine that I had aquired (for free).

I then discovered that the guy who gave it to me really didn't know anything about engines.


Turn out that it wasn't out of a 92 Si but and HF.

The motor and manual tranny are a D15Z1.

So now the dilemal starts.

The tranny is for fuel milage not performance.

My car right now has an auto.

The engine currently in my car is a D16A6.

So do I start from scratch looking at junk yards or do I use what I have??

The plan was a solid 240 Hp at the flywheel with use of turbo and just under 300 Hp with nitrous.

So niether trannys are good and I'm just not to shure on the engines. Can't find alot of info on the D15 and haven't spent a lot of time looking at the D16

Any Ideas??? I would like to use what I have due to cost but I understand if that is not going to reach my goals.

the d16a6 is really a good engine to start w/ but yeah you need a decent tranny. I'd suggest a 96-00 Civic Ex tranny, you can usually find them for $150 or so.

Will that tranny fit my 90?

Should I Upgrade the head or just mod what I have?

yeah it'll fit.

if you wanna boost i'd just put in some aftermarket pistons/rods. and then worry about the turbo kit and proper fuel managment

sad to say that you will still end up dropping some cash to get a decent set-up. I'm not very familiar with those engines, I do know a bit about D16Z or D15b or D16Y. As I said before, the 96-00 D16Y8 trannies are the best D-series trannies. Remember that you are cable right now and will have to switch to hydraulic. There is a lot of work ahead of you. Just be patient and you will eventually get there. Read and read and read tech stuff. Those EF's are light as hell.....

Thermal - The car is an auto so have to start from scratch anyways. So I will look into that Tranny.

AzCivic - Would you sugest any head work other than big cams.
Also I would like to have a programable ECU.
Suggestions please??

I say in boosted applications money that could be spent on the head is better spent elsewhere, like the block, tranny, turbo kit, and engine management. my suggestion would be to do nothing to the head except maybe clean up the vavle seats and replace whatever might go bad in it.

my knowledge w/ OBD0 is rather limited, I know there are quite a few free type programs where you just buy what you'd need to burn new chips and the program you'd use to edit things like fuel and ignition maps is a free download. I forget their names though.

What casting numbers should I be looking for on the tranny.

That is very important since people might try fooling you. Non-Y8 trannies have smaller casing too. As far as programmable ECU's, try Uberdata or Chrome. Those programs should be free and OBD-0 compatible. Uberdata is both OBD-0 and OBD-1.
