Location location location.

Does it really matter the location of the BOV? And why?

Jazn671 06-10-2003 11:54 PM

usually between 1-2' away from the throttle body... i don't think it really matters though...

KwikR6 06-10-2003 11:57 PM

yeah see that's why I was wondering.
Does it matter.

I've read this somewhere before in a book. It was actually recommended halfway in the charged section between the IC and the TB. This was the explanation, at least the geist of what I understood.

When the throttle body is positioned closed, the charged air will tend to flow backwards toward the turbo. The idea is to relieve that pressure before it reaches the compressor. The intercooler is already acting as an expansion tank, therefore there is really no need for it be relieved off. Since the charged pipe could increase the velocity of air flowing back to the IC (then to the compressor), it is recommended that this area be relieved from pressure.

It kind of makes sense to me tho.....Peace

Makes complete sense to me.
Thanks man.
Your probabaly going to get a lot of turbo quesitons from me in the next little while.
Now....to find the answer for my OBD1 to 2 question.

thermal 06-11-2003 08:52 PM

Are you gonna switch from OBD1 to OBD2? That is weird bro, I'm going backwards. I plan to switch to OBD1. I'm having a hard time tuning the focker.......:)

KwikR6 06-11-2003 11:13 PM

Yeah I gotta change the car to OBD2 if I get the B20 out of the 99 CRV and up....

thermal 06-12-2003 02:00 PM

wow! that'll be an awesome project. I will definitely to the same if I ever find a B20 in the junkyards. I dont even care if I have no car for it. I'll still get it. My civic is gonna stay like this for a while. I want a project car. I'm looking at an 87 CRX right now......

KwikR6 06-12-2003 02:33 PM

Ohhh that would be fun
Get a nice crx and drop in a b18c5 and BAM....13's already
lol

I dont think that it would put him in 13's but it would surely get below mid 15's and maybe below high 14's. But i think that 13's is a little overshooting....

oh yeah.....it would be easy though.
i don't think 13's but hey....i was typing it fast.

thermal 06-17-2003 06:27 PM

Very possible. But the thing about these B18C's are the focking price. That is why I'm leaning towards the B18B's and B20's. The B20's will give me a higher baseline torque.....

That's exactly what I was thinking.
My friend has a 6th gen hatch with a b16a and my other friend has a 5th gen hatch with a b18b and the b18 is only like 0.5XX seconds slower (or something like that. Can't remember the exact time). And the b18 is better to turbo anyway.

if everything goes well, i'll have a $200 86 CRX. I can get a B18B for cheap. Before I got deployed, I found an "untouched" B18B at the local junkyard and was offered to me for less than $300, if I pull it out myself. I didnt have a place to store it nor the time to do it. Now I'm pissed that I missed out on a great deal!
