im thinking about swapping this engine in my 95 civic. i dont know to much about this engine, any info, thoughts or oppinions would be appreciated. |
if u like torquless wonders then the B16 is for u. Decent engines, very popular and very cheap compared to others.
|
a little pricey i think, i think you can find one somewhere elese for cheaper, and isn't the the b16a1 supposed to be a redtop?
|
pm cashizslick
He put one in his civic |
Well, i have exactly that in my car . . . .. i run mid 15's at the track . . . i dunno, its fun, i just really hate hondas right now.
|
do you have any problems with emissions?
and how much did it cost you for the complete swap? |
I shouldnt have emmisions problems, and make sure your car is not made by "Honda Of Canada" like mine - or you will go thru swap hell.
|
what would be the difference?
most of the hondas I know of were made in canada |
mine is made by "honda of canada"
|
All civics from 92-95 (probably earlier models as well), and all four door civics (96 +) and hatches (96-00) are made there, as well as 96-00 Acura 1.6 and 01+ 1.7's. At he plant next door they make the MDX, Pilot, and the new pick up.

i dunno, its the only difference between my car and my friends who did the same swap as me . . . . and well, you know the story. |
so what about 96-00 ex's and si coupes? where the hell are they made since they seem like the odd balls.
|
canada and mexico
|
I believe the 96 + coupes are made in the U.S. they only made coupes up '95 up here.
|
Diggs - im pry wrong.
|
how much money did it cost you for the complete swap?
i dont want to spend a whole lot seeing as how im going to try and convert my A/T to manual. do they even have a A/T option for this engine? |
WHy waste ur money - ur carz still gonna be a slow honda anyways.
BTW, an auto tranny on that motor would suck seeing as how the thing has a small power band and is only moderately quick with short gearing. |

then why did you do it, if your car is just a slow honda? and if i did it,it wouldnt be to race or anything, i have 130,000 miles on my D series. so i would like to get a new engine eventually anyways, and i wouldnt mind a little more hp. I thought this engine would a good choice. |
Quote:
Because i didnt have anybody telling me (like im tellin you) NOT to waste my money. |
I see....
|
I like my friends b16 sol...but I wouldnt buy one for a swap. Theyre very rev happy and w/ some ctr pistons and more aggressive cams theyre surprisingly better.
There are other options like turbo D16 though. It'd be cheaper and faster than an n/a swap |
To your question do they make auto tranny's for b16 yea they do i just seen one for sale i think 250 or some shit..And being slow i dont know my friend does all the engine swaps were im from and i seen a b16 in a 95 civic he was running high 13s in quarter...and i have ls motor in my hatch with header and exhaust running 14 secs with shitty stock tires,i would just go gsr in that civic they just did one in 98 hatch gsr swap and its running 13.2 on slicks and exhaust intake fucking fast shit...Good luck with it..
|
^ yeah i think the gsr swap is the way to go, i was just considering the b16 to save me some money.
|
hear this really really sad story:
my car is a 1992 Honda Civic CX hatchback 70HP and like 92trq the intake manifold is too small to add a C.A.I. I have a 10 gallon tank, and it takes like 13 dollars to fill up. I get about 33MPG |
HP = $$
Sucks but it's the truth |
ya know jj, all Bseries tb's will bolt onto any Dseries horizontal intake manifold design - Or any Dseries tb too for that matter.
If you really wanted to add a larger inlet so you could add an intake tube you could do that. |
Change out the throttle body?
pdig, one of my friends was telling me to get a d16y8 intake manifold, like he has on his 2000 Honda civic EX, and get about 15 extra horsepower by just putting that bigger intake manifold on. With the bigger intake manifold I'll be able to put a C.A.I. on. |
yeah you can do that too. You wont gain 15hp, but you should notice it.
The y8 IM is the type r mainifold of Dseries. (There is a difference between 96-98 and 99-00 IMs...exactly what I cant remember. Whether that matters w/ a 5th gen or not I dont know) |
Hey Pdigg, do you know how much trouble it is swapping the the IMs? If it's not that big of a deal I'll just hook up with a y8 IM and swap them out.
