Tricking out your computer...
Aw man, now i've got one more thing thats going to eat my time and money. Back in the day I was tihnking about modding my system, but I kinda forgot about it. Now the other day I went to a LAN party and this dudes system was amazing! He had the home court advantage, but it still looked cool. Normal sized tower, all silver, with a huge plexiglass window in the side with blue cold cathodes and leds, those clear fans with the leds built in, and he had two red leds hooked into his blue glowing cpu heatsink that blinked with the hdd light...and a pop up hood on the top of the case with an aux fan...looked awesome.
We upgraded mine as soon as I got there, and he gave me two extra clear and green led fans...I'm hooked. I'm going to buy a window kit for mine and get some cold cathodes and convert to round cables...stuff is cheap these days! anyone else have tricked out rigs? |
I have semi-tricked out rigs... better than a plain case, one of them watercooled, etc.

Yup, I'm setting it back up tonight to fold with a duron processor I won. :D |
oh gosh.. Nice.. but I hope I dont start wasting $$ on that..

Tricking out a computer can be pretty cheap if you do stuff yourself. |
I guess so..
But why the hell would you want to turn a CPU into a disco ball?! Some setups are really amazing though.. Silver casing, cool switches and stuff.. but lights?! |

I wouldn't want to make my computer too bright, but some nice cold cathodes in the background make it look nice. Everything is on switches too, so I hardly ever have anything turned on. |
cathodes = expensive?
|
heh, mufflers with leds, windshield washer nozzles with leds, now we are ricing out computers too ? ;)

haha that was my first tought! |
yo don't forget the Type R badges, the cf cd-rom, the 1000w audio card ;) ;)

neh, maybe $12 or so. Same as a neon. |

LMAO   |

ok.. will take that into consideration.. In the next few weeks I'll be posting a zillion topics in this forum.. The reason being, I'm buying a new computer soon.. |

That's cool, are you building it yourself? |
i could.. but i wont need to.. since I'll be getting most of it from 1 store.. so they'll assemble.. but I'm choosing my parts (unless thats what you meant by "are you building it"..)..
|
I think I'm definatly putting a VTEC sticker on my computer. Seeing as how I wont put rice on my car, Its gotta go somewhere!
cathodes arent too much more expensive than neons for your car, the advantage is cathodes generate no heat. And man, I didnt realize water cooling came in kits these days! Back in the day they were still DIY projects and concepts only! I've been out of it! |

Water cooling kits ALL suck. You need to build your own to get any performance. You can build a nice one for the same price you can buy a bad one. |
here's my work in progress. future plans: swap multicolor led's for green only led fans. a pair of bubble green cathodes (FREE :)) stealthing the cd drives maybe get the window etched.. with what i have no idea. probly some green EL wire to outline the window. this system is currently beheaded since the motherboard was messed up and is currently back at the vendor getting replaced. i should take this time to get some WORK done. heh. |
I was waiting for you to get in on this thread...I figured you had a tricked comp! nice, I like the huge window!

waiting on me eh? ;) actually all of that is stock. but i'll do some personal touches later. |
well, of the people I expected to have a modded rig, you were one of them.
do you use the rounded cables or the old ribbon style? I dont see them in that shot. quite the lack of cards as well, man. I only see a video card and NIC card. I'm assuming you have sound on the board. still, good lookin setup man. I'll post pics of mine when its something to show. |

You can make your own round cables if your daring enough. A razor, and some colored electrical tape makes a big improvement. There are instructions on the internet, I can try to dig them up if your interested.:) |

see the round silver cable? all my wires are shoved into the empty drive bays so its a cleaner look. since i have now replaced the side fans i didn't feel like worrying about the cable on the side fan at that point. yes i was using onboard everything but video. the audio on that board was 6 channel 5.1 dolby digital so its pretty good. unfortunately i got my 3rd replacement board an Abit NF7-S this time.. it too was dead on arrival. i'm going back to intel land. :( |
