What would you swap into a civic hatchback?

maybe a b18c? (thats teh code for a teg gsr right?)

TeriyakiBroccoli 03-02-2003 05:49 PM

b18c1 is the engine code for the GSR motor.

You can swap ANYTHING into a hatch, including the H22. Mounts are a different story though.

to answer the question better on which motor, it might more helpful to know how the car will be used

b18c is good all-around motor and can be built all-motor or turbo
h22 is a good straight line motor, although i have heard of people auto-x w/ h22

slowEJ6 03-03-2003 10:38 AM

what do you want to do with your car - is a better question.

Leets 03-03-2003 12:24 PM

I would drop in a Lambo's V12:yes:

... hey, no one said it had to be realistic.;)

cashizslick 03-03-2003 03:11 PM

It all depends on what you wanna do with your car, and what you wanna build it for.

id say, the most practicle swap(s) you can do are the B16A2 and B18C1.

pdiggitydogg 03-03-2003 05:22 PM

go b16 and turbo

slowEJ6 03-03-2003 05:27 PM

Heres how i feel. in order of fav to least fav per category.

Turbocharged:
B18B
B16A
B18C1
B18C5 - easy to turbo, just takes a lot of tuning. doubt me, go ahead. ill prove you wrong. :pfft:

All Motor:
B18C5
LS/VTEC

Supercharged:
:paranoid:
:loco:

if i was strapped for cash however, id do a cheap yet effective swap - D16Y5 turbo.

iRACEmyCTR 03-03-2003 10:16 PM

YOU GUYS ARE FORGETTING THE B16B!!!!!!!!! GAH I CANT BELIEVE NO ONE SAID TO GET A B16B!!!

TeriyakiBroccoli 03-03-2003 10:22 PM

why would i say B16B when I can get gobs more power out of my second gen B16A for less money?

Get a B16A man, it's more worth the money to me.

slowEJ6 03-04-2003 05:02 PM

b16b is a worthless motor. b18c5 is a couple hundred more and is worth every penny.

Shot 2 Hel 03-05-2003 09:38 PM

b18c5 or an H22 if your not gonna use it as a daily driver

JDMB16 03-10-2003 08:37 AM

why would it matter if he used it as a daily driver or not?? I don't see why you would think that...please explain

pdiggitydogg 03-10-2003 10:32 AM

i personally love the b16a2...

h0ndakilla 04-24-2003 08:34 PM

thanx man, i think im going to go with the b18 GSR motor, you think it'll be good? oh ya.. how much does it cost to have it droped in and how much HP does it have?

silver 04-26-2003 03:42 PM

labor would be around a grand, give or take a couple of hundred dollars depending on the place and if you are buying anything else from them. If you don't mind driving, an hour north of you in Orange County I can get you together with some people who'll do the install for you cheaper than any shop plus install anything else that you may want. If you order the motor from nippon motors you could pick it up in Hawthorne and drive about 20 minutes east to where they can install(don't know how you'd tranpsort the motor though but I could work that out for you as well). hit me up on pm if you're interested.

JDMB16 04-26-2003 05:42 PM

B18C1 (USDM GSR motor) has 170 hp
B18C (JDM GSR motor) has 180 hp
yes, it's a good motor

If anyone charges you more than $800, go somewhere else

It would be best if you would answer that question first instead of asking us to answer it for you.

I wasn't sure what you meant by this, but I plan on using my car as a dialy driver. I need "ok" gas mileage, I'm more concerned with whp. I want the most power for my buck. I have a 95 civ sedan m/t dx. Someone suggested a civ SI engine, but whats the most compatible and biggest vtec that will fit? So i guess i'm asking what motor has the most whp, best mpg, and less amount of mods to put into my car? HELP

92 civic b18c1 05-27-2003 03:03 PM

[b] If you want the most hp the H22 is the way togo, but you have to give up your power streering and ac, but if you want a really fun car to drive I would go with the b18c19I have on in my 92 honda civic VX 3dr, and it is great! I love staying in gear to 8400rpms I love the way the tire cherp with every shift (execpt 5th) After market parts for the b series engine are everywhere and alot cheaper then the H series engines. Not to mention the sound this engine makes, the stock intak manifold had a dual plane intake with secondaries that open around 3500rpms and the engine note changes alot then the Vtec kicks in around 4500rpms and you start going fast and a big grin froms on your face. The only problem I have is that every kid with a big muffler on his car tries to race me.

My car amd mods:
B18c1 swap,
B18c5 head,
ITR cams,
Skunk2 valve springs and retrainers
Custom cold air intake,
Dc sports 4-1 ceramic coated headers,
High flow cat,
Apex-i N1 exhaust,
16" rims with 215/40R16s

goatnipples2002 05-27-2003 03:50 PM

I don't want to give up my a/c because I'm black enough and I lift weights so there's no need for me to lift more when I drive. You said the b18c1 right? What car does that come out of? My friend says v-tec's are godly and i'm starting to see why. What head are you using I mean what car is it from? Why not the b18c1 head? What tranny do you use? Will my car bark 1-4 if I put in the b18c1 or is that just yours? What year is that engine from?

92 civic b18c1 05-27-2003 06:14 PM

Ok, my engine block is a b18c1 from a 2000 Acrua Intagra GSR, with a head from a JDM Acrua Integra 1999 Type-R b18c5, My intake manifold is still from the 2000 integra Gsr, I didn't have enough to get the type-r manifold. BUt if you get the gsr 97-01 your car will still bark if you have a short ram intake or Cold air intake. I went with the B18c1 be3cause I live in AZ and lloosing my AC is not an option for a daliy driver. When the engine was just a stock B18c1 from the GSR with my bolt ons CAI,Header,Exhuast, it still barked and was wicked fast..

I hope this helps:thumbsup:

goatnipples2002 05-27-2003 06:26 PM

I ask alot of Q's because I don't know shit about imports.

Are acura engine's better than honda engines? Aren't they more expensive? Are type-R's faster than gsr? What's type-R & gsr mean? What sets them apart? What makes them better than other engines? Is it harder to mount an acura engine into a honda?

The only thing I know about hondas and acuras is that they're pussy magnets;) ;)  and that honda produces acuras.

92 civic b18c1 05-27-2003 06:56 PM

ok, both honda and Acura are the same, they are just sold under differant names in the us because, they want people with hondas to move up to acrua's as they get older and their tastes are refined, Like Chevy's to cadilalcs. Thbe b18c1 engine is just a 1.8 liter DOHC Vtec engine. Most civic's come with either a 1.5/1.6/or 1.7 liter SHOC engine, except for the 94-97 delsol Vtec, and the 99-03 civic SI models.

The differance between the GSR and type-R integra's arew the GSR gets a B18c1 with 190hp and the type-r gets a b18c5 210hp. both are 1.8 liter DOHC engine both have vtec. The b18c5 costs about $1000 more if you can find a good deal on one.

goatnipples2002 05-27-2003 07:01 PM

Are there 1.8 dohc vtec honda engines? Do the acura engines cost more?

92 civic b18c1 05-27-2003 08:00 PM

TThe 1.8 liter DHOC engines in the Acrua intrga's say Honda Vtec on the valce covers. They are the same. You won't find a B18a/b/c any of them in a Honda car. They only go in Acrua's cars. You can get a b16 in 99-02 civic SI's and 94-97 Del Sol , but they are 1.6 liter dohc vtec eninges that make 160hp, about 20 less then the GSR b18c1 engine. B18b/a make 140hp they are 1.8 liter dohc engines found in the integra LS and GS models. They are great for supercharging and turbocharging.

The b16 (160hp)should cost about $3600 installed, turn key price, if you keep it completely stock.

The b18b(140hp) should cost about $4000 installed turn key price. I would choose this motor over the b16 even with the hp it has more tq, and just adding a b16 head or GSR head it you can make it into an LS/vtec, with the correct ECU and wiring harness.

The B18c1(180 hp) should cost you between $4500-4900 installed turn key price.

goatnipples2002 05-27-2003 09:31 PM

I hope you mean brand new, no miles at all, because I'll be doing alot of ****in savin if you mean used.

AzCivic 05-27-2003 09:49 PM

those prices are for used engines, engines with an unknown history/mileage.

92 civic b18c1 05-28-2003 12:29 AM

yeah all those prices are used engine+tranny+ ECU prices. If you want a ne unused 0 mile engine your going to pay alot more. I would guess atleast double.

Spitz 05-28-2003 07:48 AM

WEll you would have to get a 00-02 because of emision rule, that is if you wanted to stay legal.

sohc_vtec 2NR 05-28-2003 02:31 PM

Yes I would if I could get it to fit and still be a front wheel drive car. I am a MOPAR person, when it comes down to 60's muscle all the other car makers were eating mopar dust..

Spitz 05-28-2003 06:10 PM

is there a jdm b16a from 00-02 or did they all go b16b by then
