Honda Automatic Transmission Warranty Extension

Sorry if it's been posted, but this is the first I've seen on it......

American Honda Extends Warranties on Select Automatic Transmissions

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 20, 2002 - American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced today it will provide extended warranties on approximately 1.2 million Honda and Acura models equipped with automatic transmissions due to problems that may result in premature wear or failure. The extended warranty will cover affected transmissions for seven years or 100,000 miles.

The standard bumper-to-bumper warranty for Honda vehicles is three years or 36,000 miles, while Acura vehicles are covered for four years or 50,000 miles.

Vehicles covered by the extended warranty include:
2000 - 2001 Honda Accord, Odyssey and Prelude
2000 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 TL
2001 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 CL

While only two percent of these vehicles have experienced these transmission problems, American Honda will provide extended transmission warranties on all potentially affected vehicles. "Our priorities are making sure our customers are taken care of and reassured they can continue to depend on their Honda or Acura automobile for a long time to come," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president for American Honda.

There is usually plenty of warning to the driver that the transmission is not operating properly, such as slow or erratic shifting, giving them ample time to take the vehicle in for service.

American Honda will notify all owners of eligible vehicles via mail in the coming weeks.

Associates receiving media calls on this issue should direct the calls to the Public Relations Department at (310) 783-3170.

At least they are admitting and fixxing their mistakes...

wandl 01-24-2004 07:58 PM

wish they would include the 99 accord's...seeing how they have similar problems regardless of mileage..

BlvdKing 02-15-2004 09:21 PM

I hope I won't have any problems with my 98' V6 coupe I just bought.

solanog 08-07-2005 12:42 PM

How can I contact Honda via e-mail. My mothers 2001 V6 Accord is having transmission problems and since I live in Costa Rica I don't want to do anything through the dealer before contacting Honda so I can have the official word on the non USA cars. This car is only 40 000 kilometers, less than 25 000 miles.

Thanks for the info you can provide.

We talked with the dealer and the transmission was replaced with a new one. I hope this one is an improved designed so it won't fail anymore.

Honda Accord 2002 AT extended warranties

Honda tells me that is BS, no extended warranties. I'm sending letters of protest to my dealer, Honda Japan and Honda of California because the dealer and Honda California misinformed me (damn lies) re how to be reimbursed for an AT failure that was repaired at an independent shop. My local dealer admitted we complained re the AT while it was under warranty and then later denied telling me the same info. No more Hondas for me after this episode.

IALuder 05-27-2006 03:13 PM

well depend on how long the warrenty is and if you paid for it.

plus if you had a independent shop do the work honda wont cover it.

I think that would be the rule for Honda, Rolex or whatever stuff you buy and has a warranty.

daniel86 07-09-2009 04:23 AM

Sounds like a good idea, I've got a few friends who've had issues.

mikejag 10-13-2015 09:12 AM
