Factory PSI Setting on Turbo?

Its on an 89 Probe. It came with the turbo from the factory and wanted to know if you could jack up the psi or what? Also, I believe it has an internal wastegate. You cant really hear nothing when you shift. Can you get an external wastegate for it? The probe is my friends and he wants to know. Sorry, its not Honda related.

From what I have heard the older Probe engines are not a very strong engine and wont take a lot of abuse. You can take it up with an internal wastegate but I wouldnt go more than a few psi if the engine is in good shape. On of the easiest ways to increase boost pressure is to get a manual boost controller. It is a simple device, is cheap and is very easy to install. Im not sure who makes these anymore. There is a downside to them though and that is that they tend to not be very stable with higher boost pressure. My suggestion would be to just leave boost where it is at. If he still craves boost tell him to look into seeing if the old SVO 2.3 turbo engine will fit in somehow.

......or tell your friend to get a boost gauge. see what's going on. u can control the internal wastegate also by making adjustments to the actuator arm. the problem is, you'll never know what boost level you're gonna end up with. as far as sounds, if you're referring to the BOV, it's not gonna go off loud because the outlet or release nose is most likely be re-routed to the intake side again. that is how stock turbo with wastegate usually are....... :D

Thanks for the help. Getting a boost gauge is a good idea. I would like to know how much boost hes runnin cause it pulls pretty hard.
