Locked Shifter??

I just purchased a 2005 Honda Accord EX 4DR a few weeks ago from a used Toyota Dealer. As of yesterday, my shifter would be locked in the "P" (park) position and would not shift into the "D" (drive) position. And yes I had my foot on the brake and the car was fully turned on, so now each time before I start my car I have to manually override the shifter by putting my key in the hole next to the shifter than putting it into neutral. Does anyone know why this is happening, how I can fix it, and if it's ok to drive my car like this for the next few days until I get it to the dealer or my mechanic.

Edit- The 3 year 36,000 Honda warranty is not valid as this car as the car now has 50,000 miles

Any help is appreciated!

My girlfriends car was having this problem and yeah its fine to keep doing that untill you get it fixed... its just some dumb little electronic box actuator thingie and it is located under the steering wheel under the dash. We got the part at autozone...
