Red Valve Cover
 

Here's my question...I recently acquired a 2000 SiR (Si in the US) and I want to swap the valve cover to a red one. Is it an Integra cover, or aftermaket?

either or. u can get it from a dealership also. just let them know which color u want and may cost u more.

i also heard about this guy buying ford red paint at the part store and painting it himself. It looked pretty good too. and only for $10 bucks. or do what Thermal says.

Like thermalfi'd16 said, you can order it throught the dealership or if you subscribe to Honda Tuning or Import Tuner, they have them for sale in the AD pages. If no luck there, try nopi.com! Hope this helps!!:eek:

You could easily paint that valve cover for about $20 in supplies. You need some engine enamel with ceramic(dupli-color is pretty good), wet sand paper(1000 or 1500 grit), and some engine enamel clear coat. Just sand the cover down and apply light coats of the color you choose(about 3 is good). Then apply the clear coat(2 light coats). You'll want to apply the clear coat within about 10-20 min of applying your last coat of color to acheive a nice gloss.

Otherwise just buy one.

Told ya you can paint for really cheap. hehehe but if money aint the problem you can probably buy it at the dealer or your local performance store like others have replied.

I forgot you'll also need a new valve cover gasket. You'll need that whether you replace or paint it.

Try powerdercoating. I have gotten several things on my car powdercoated and it looks great. It is almost immune to heat, oil, chips and scratches. Best of all it is cheap. When i got my valve cover done I have them sandblast the factory black paint off and then powdercoat it red. It was only 60 bucks and I had it back the next day.

What type of shop did you get it powder coated at? That sounds like a good solution.

There are shops that deal with jsut powder coating and metal finishing. Usually the shop will be able to anidize (sp?), Jet coat, and polish many types of metals. The best thing to do is look in the yellow pages under powdercoating and something will probably be near you.


Another thing about powdercoating is that withstands a real high amout of heat and you can ever clear coat over it. Plus you can do it to near anything wheels, valve covers, intake pipes, turbo housings

Do it yourself and save yourself a buttload of money. Just take your time and be careful.

Problem with that is that I am a very impatient person, and I demand perfection. I think I'll splurge on the new cover, but thanks for all your guys' help!

I would have to go with boosted on this.. Find a place to powdercoat.. Powdercoating gives you a better finish, lasts longer, and is so much more durable. You dont have to worry about fisheyes or orange peel, or bumping it with the wrench when your changed spark plugs and scratching it all up.

Problem with being so isolated up here is that I have a limited supply of services. I would have to ship the cover down south somewhere, unable to drive until it came back.

I know what you mean... Your best bet, if you dont mind paying the money like you said, would be just buy a new one.

They look the best any way.

If you got the cash, go ahead and spend it on a new one. My previous reply was if you didn't have the cash to paint it yourself.
