Get a ECU chip, or racing clutch?
 

Can someone please help me to decide which buy would be the best upgrade for my current set up. I have I/H/E, and will be installing my tokico illuminas and my clutchmaster 7 lb flywheel. Should I get a ECU upgrade chip or the clutch. I plan on getting a turbo sometime in June. My ride is a '96 Civic Ex. Thanks!

Dont waste your money on a chip... Get a clutch..:yes:

If you've done conisderable work to the engine.. Then consider a chip..

If not, the clutch is a good way to go.

What are the benefits of a new clutch like an ACT 3 clutch, instead of the stock one?

If you dont really have anything done to the car you wont benefit from a clutch near as much. But you still will..

I had an 89 Crx SI, completely stock, 130,000 miles on it. I put a Heavy Duty RAM clutch in it from summit... OMG, what a difference it makes... I could break traction in 3rd gear with this clutch on a stock car!!! It was incredible, but completely sucked in the snow and rain...;)

So I am basically screwed with a 7 lb flywheel and a new Exegy clutch considering that I live in Colorado. Well, I guess I just will have to get better at driving and knowin my car!

With just an i/h/e, a chip won't make much of a difference. Go with a clutch.

Also, as long as you're in there, you can save yourself a couple hundred bucks down the road and put the flywheel and clutch in at the same time.

I just did my clutch in last month, and it's great- and I live in Colorado, too. It's a worthwhile investment.

Ok but how much power will a chip give you? Will it even give you power? I heard that it can give up to 20-25 extra hp?

The Exedy clutch may not be near as bad as the one I put in the CRX. I have an Exedy clutch for the Civic, but I havent gotten in yet. I cant wait till I do. Hopefully within the next month or 2 Ill get it installed.

A chip will give you power if you've already got a good amount of power mods under the hood. If you got I/H/E, you'll maybe get 5-8 hp from the chip, if your lucky.......if you really want to do something with fuel controll, just go with a fuel computer.
The chip becomes important when your boosting or have a pretty decently built NA engine.
With boost (i.e. turbo) 20-25 hp will be more realistic.
Withh a naturally aspirated engine, hp comes in smaller increments and you gotta eke out every little bit of hp from what you got.
With FI, power comes in bigger jumps, but sometimes more expensive.
