Which video card?!

I'll be getting a new computer soon..
AMD 2000+ (apx)
with about 512 of pc2100 266 DDR
SB Audigy2 platinum
a good size HD

But I'm not too sure what to get for a video card..

I'm not really a gamer, I was thinking of a card with a GF4 MX440 8x chip.. But then I realized, a TV tuner would be cool..

So what would be the most cost effective way to have a reasonably strong video card + TV tuner..

Video card + TV tuner card = ??

Or all-in-wonder?

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

well i had ati and it was pretty rock solid. their drivers sucked thou, but i've heard they are a lot better now so i'd say all in wonder. make sure you get a newer model

Accord Man 04-06-2003 09:04 PM

they're very expensive though.. :paranoid:

I have a geforce 4 mx440, no complaints here.

If you're looking for a card that's not for gaming, check out the 8500 AIW, or maybe a GF4 Ti with VIVO.

I see.. I thought there would be a less expensive way..

Unless I get a GF4 MX440 8x + TV tuner device (that plugs into USB or a card (PCI))

I know they exist, but dont know anything about them...

Well, the 8x is worthless for the most part. The existing cards aren't eating up the bandwidth from the 4x AGP. There are lots of tv tuners out there, and I hear that Leadtek makes decent ones for the money (though you'll want to research that more).

Get a good card and TV tuner. All-In-Wonders are "so-so" video cards.

i suggest a 8500 retail 128mb they can be found for around 80 bucks used.

or if you want to be equipped for the next year or two get a 9500 nonpro for about 145-160.

right now ati has both sides of the market cornered. speed and price.

I just ordered a Leadtek TV capture card, so I'll let you know how I like it. Its the Winfast xp deluxe or something like that.

Accord Man 04-09-2003 10:34 PM

After extensive researching..

I'll probably go with EVGA GF4 MX440 DDR (not 8X model..)

The quality is good, and overall I like it. I haven't had a chance to play with it too much though. For $55 or so, its great.

Maxvla 04-14-2003 11:07 PM

i'll put it on my wishlist :)

The bundled drivers suck though. I don't know if you saw my post in the software forum, but it wouldn't install on one of my computers. Its nicer on my dually anyway though. I guess the internet drivers are supposed to fix the problems, though they didn't for me.

Yeah from what I know right now, nvidia screwed up and didnt release the new geforce, so ATI is destroying them with their new release.

A gefore4 mx (lowest end 4) will go for about 50 bucks. I'm grabbing that!

Accord Man 04-15-2003 08:37 AM

ok.. at that price, I'm also getting it..
