Suspension upgrading

I prolly should put this in the suspension forum but meh its about my accord and im sure hondamaniac, comes here more often to look at posts..and u know ur shit ..heh..but i got my Ractive Coil Overs today...and my tie rods and sway bar brushing s are getting fixed..but i was wondering over the winter im going to save up and buy koni yellows..but is that all i need? would buying a chamber kit and maybe new control arms or SOMETHING
be a good idea to make sure the ride is nice...im prolly dropping it at least 2 inches..maybe more..and basically the coil overs replace my stock shocks right? or am i wrong...need some ideas please thanks..and ya this isnt all happening till next year but im making a list now...;)

Coilover sleeves (Ractive) replace your stock springs, and you keep your stock struts. True coilovers replace the stock spring and strut with a well matched combo. You don't need new control arms when you upgrade.

Yes, a 2" drop will most likely require a camber kit, but get an alignment done after lowering to be sure. A camber kit is only needed if the alignment cannot be done within spec using the stock adjustments.

For the Koni yellows, yeah, that's all you need. I believe there are two editions - those that will fit GC coilover sleeves, and those that don't (slightly skinnier). Check the specs of your Ractive coilovers to determine which you'll need (most likely the regular version).

it looks like you got it all figured it out. as for the control arms ( the upper one) ingalls has a camber kit like that, that will replace the whole thing. it will adjust the camber from the upper balljoint. if u get the anchors the arms will hit the inner fender because of the small clearance.

allright thanks for that info..

ShEaNy 09-08-2002 06:35 PM

wow some guy today i was talking to said that ractive wasnt a good brand...even if i do get konis with them he said the ride will be bumpy....hmmm

ebpda9 09-08-2002 06:50 PM

i don't know about ractive. i heard the ground control are really good, and sometimes skunk2.

ShEaNy 09-08-2002 06:52 PM

meh im sure if i get konis and get it all properly installed..it will work out fine...

ShEaNy 09-09-2002 04:59 PM

hmmm also i forgot to ask when i do this.i want to upgrade the brakes..like silver and blue theme (calipers, lines, pads, rotors, etc) any good brands i should look into? for each of those?

mikeperrette 09-09-2002 10:05 PM

Yea you need to replace your struts because they will blow out lowering the car 2inchs if they are already arent blowen. Get so kybs or tokicos. I bought mine from thi company in california for pretty cheap.Check them out.

umm, you bought ractive..

Nevermind that its a cheaper product.. the thing is that they are prone to rust fast.. faster than the other BS COs out there..

keep them well lubed and try to avoid driving in salty (as in salt) conditions.

ShEaNy 09-10-2002 01:49 PM

wow...i never knew that...damn...i'll use em but if they start to rust out ill just get better ones..and sell these..before there to bad..oh well...what GOOd brands of CO's are there for my car..?

94_AcCoRd_EX 09-10-2002 01:55 PM

Go with a true coilover such as Apex'i or Tein.

If you're stuck on getting sleeves, get GC's

mikeperrette 09-10-2002 01:55 PM

Skunk 2 are a good coil over.

bckwld94acc 09-10-2002 04:55 PM

Hey i was wondering on those camber kits that come with the upper control arm, do they make them for 94 accord lx's and do you know if they come with a new balljoint? finally if any of you know of some prices and where to find them. thanx in advance.

ebpda9 09-10-2002 05:29 PM

yup. i found some at www.groupbuycenter.com for 150.

ShEaNy 09-10-2002 11:52 PM

GC = ? Ground Control? LOL i have no idea... im going to stick with these ractives and go Koni;s....with a chamber kit...anyone know any good aftermarket brake parts for my car? Brembo?(sp?)AEM?

94_AcCoRd_EX 09-11-2002 12:00 AM

GC = Ground Control. Just seems weird to have really cheap sleeves and spend $550 on nice struts

Anyway, big brake kits like the AEM require you to have at least 17" wheels for clearance issues.

ShEaNy 09-11-2002 12:04 AM

ahhhh .... well wouldnt cheap CO's and Cheap struts be even worse? lol

ShEaNy 09-11-2002 12:07 AM

lol..arghhh now im thinking of trying to return these for something different...im going to ask the guy how long these CO's will last me....first

Well, didn't mean to talk you out of it, but we're here to help you out. Have you looked into Apex'i WS? They run around $850 (you can find them cheaper though), and you have yourself a true coilover. You were going to spend close to that with your sleeve strut combo.

ShEaNy 09-11-2002 12:17 AM

hmmmm maybe ill look into that... i do appreciate the help...i just never know.. i mean i go to the counter i say i need a GOOD CO and hes like yup i got just the type for ur year..i ask what type how much etc..shoulda taken for time..my bad.. oh well thank god for refunds...well im off to bed..

Yeah, I know what you're saying. That's why I know what I'm going to order before I go to a shop always. Oh well, live and learn.

ebpda9 09-11-2002 10:30 AM

i don't know but for some reason i don't like the coilovers unless they are a true setup. i think matrix makes a 24point adjustable one. for over a grand better be good

ShEaNy 09-13-2002 05:56 PM

lol wow if only i had the cash...well the guy said in Summer conditions..in winnipeg..with koni yellows or even kyb's..the ride should be fine depending on how low i go..which is going to be 2 inches only to start..as long as i keep then clean...lubed and and some other little things..i think im going with these.... he said he can get me a deal on the struts and installation...so ya..im happy now...
