AutoMeter Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge Installation

Autometer Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge Installation

DISCLAIMER: The words written below are based solely on my personal experience. The procedure is NOT a “text book” procedure. I will NOT be responsible for any mishap and/or damage that may occur during the project. Use common sense to practice safety. Goodluck.

Elapse time: 1 hr

Tools:
-screw driver set, Phillips
-wire cutter
-wire stripper
-soldering gun or
-wire tap

Materials:
-Autometer Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge, set
-Electrical tape
-Solder
-Multi-meter, if necessary
-Wire, if necessary

Steps:
1) Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2) Locate a mounting spot for the gauge. Do NOT mount the gauge at this time.
3) Make every possible effort to hide the wires safely. The wires should be protected from sharp edges to avoid a faulty reading.
4) Run the purple wire to the ECU. Tap the purple wire to the thick white wire on the ECU harness. This wire should be thicker in diameter amongst any other wires on the ECU.
5) Or, run the purple wire through the firewall going towards the engine bay.

a) Locate the primary O2 sensor white wire.
b) Attempt to tap the wire at least 6 inches away from the sensor itself. Avoid heat sources to contact with the purple wire.
c) Tap the purple wire to the O2 sensor white wire.

6) Ground the black wire
7) Find a positive source for the red wire, preferably, a non-constant power source. A non-constant power source will de-energize when the engine is NOT running.
8) Allow plenty of wire slack behind the gauge pod.
9) Mount the gauge pod.
10) Re-connect the negative terminal of the battery.
11) Start the car and enjoy

Note:
The Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge will be NORMALLY displaying an erratic (jumping up and down) reading, especially on idle engine status. This unit is more effective while on full open throttle or on a progressing/increasing rate of acceleration.

Caution:
This instruction was conducted on an OBD2 99-00 Civic ECU. All other wiring codes maybe different. Email me for further info.
