We did some street tuning last night with the AEM and wideband. Boost spikes past 10 psi on a Tial 38mm (on a 7.25 psi spring). We are going to hook up the GM boost solenoid today to minimize or cancel this spike. Overall, the car runs awesome. VTEC is set at 5100 and I loose traction on WOT whenever VTEC hits.........

KwikR6 02-21-2006 01:52 PM

LUCKY /Napoleon dynamite voice.

JDMFantasy2k 02-21-2006 02:27 PM

why is vtec set so low? what cams are you running?

thermal 02-21-2006 04:50 PM

We set the VTEC low to see what the motor will do while reacting to boost. I have a stock JDM ITR head. Cams are stock JDM ITR.

UPDATE:
Hooked up the GM boost solenoid and it improved the boost spikes and power feels more responsive and linear. However, I still get boost spikes on 4th gear rolls. We have the boost cut set at 11psi. I havent driven a fast car in a while. Today, I got scared again on the third gear pull at WOT all the way up to 92000 RPM.

My 38mm WG is not holding boost. I'm gonna look for a 44mm now.

Also, another issue is the oil leak. I'm leaking oil behin the block somewhere. I've already check the oil pressure sensor, my GReddy adapter plate, oil temp sensor, oil pressure sensor (to electronic gauge), oil pan gasket, and the head/block mating. I have no clue where this oil is coming from. My catch can is dry as shit. I'm gonna clean it off and start the car while on a jack stand. Maybe I'd see it then.......

Also, I just won this C.O.P. from ebay for $30 shipped. I'm going to experiment on it.

dabouncerx24 02-22-2006 03:08 AM

92,000 RPM eh ;). Nice man, as always, I am an avid fan of your project and looking at your set-up makes me itch to turbo my Teg.

JDMFantasy2k 02-22-2006 11:55 AM

COP? Coil on plug i assume? How the fuk does that work? Oh wait, i'm assuming you'll control it through the EMS somehow and just elminate the dizz?

thermal 02-22-2006 06:55 PM

yep^. My friend has been running it for a while now with no issues. Cheaper plugs too....

sicones 02-22-2006 06:59 PM

why would plugs be cheaper if you ran individual coils????

thermal 02-22-2006 10:18 PM

????... you still need plugs. It will be motorcycle plugs which is like $3.50 each.

i'd be scared too if my engine reved to 92k rpms. :loco:

nice project. too bad i had to cancell all my car projects.

AkimboStylee 02-23-2006 01:13 PM

why what happened?

thermal 02-23-2006 07:16 PM

Still looking for an oil leak. Looking around, I found that my VTEC solenoid also had a miniscule leak. I worked on my tuner's car today. He shattered his reverse gear and second gear synchro. So we pulled the tranny out. Then a phone call came from one of his sponsors offering him a great deal on a proto-type twin disk clutch. I ended up buying his Exedy twin disk for $850 so he can test out this new clutch from his sponsor. The Exedy only has 5 miles on it :D.

sohc_vtec 2NR 02-24-2006 12:56 PM

nice score...although $850 is way step compared to my budget!

Well, I still cant figure out where the oil is coming from, although I discovered that my oil return line was leaking.... but not enough to cause my previous problem. I also reseated my oil filter just to make sure.

While working on my tuner's tranny yesterday, he received a phone call from his prospective clutch sponsor. They offered him a proto-type twin disk for a deal too stupid to refuse. I ended up buying this proto-type clutch for him for $850, in return, I kept his 5 mile old Exedy twin disk. I just need a Quaife LSD now to pull the tranny out again. That wont happend until later next month or so.....

About to pick-up a Tial 44mm wastegate in a couple of hours.

Pics:
First one is the Exedy twin disk. Second is the newly fabbed gauge pod that included my AEM EUGO wideband and two switches: N2O IC spray and GM high boost switch. The rest are self explanatory....

Mischief 02-24-2006 04:38 PM

your center console looks a lot cooler than mine :( and is the truck your daily?

thermal 02-24-2006 04:41 PM

Yep. That truck is a POS but I'm still thankful for it cuz it got me to places I needed to go. I spent about $1200 two days ago trying to pass an inspection.

Mischief 02-24-2006 04:52 PM

ha damn.. I might be start doing a sidejob making some decent money on the weekends, and I want to do a junkyard turbo set up on my 'teg.. we'll have to hook up so I can get some advice from you..

thermal 02-24-2006 05:15 PM

I'm always here mang :)

dabouncerx24 02-24-2006 10:25 PM

Wow Arnel! You first started (or officially informed us about) the project around a year and a half ago man! From then until now I think everyone's been in love with your car and are extremely anxious to see what type of numbers it posts up. So glad to see the project is almost finished man, keep us informed.

thermal 02-24-2006 11:08 PM

thanks bro!

Can't go wrong with anything motorcycle :yup: ;)

Much  to the effort that you put in to your car man!

GT40FIED 02-25-2006 03:27 AM

I had a friend that converted an old school OHV motor to a c.o.p setup. He spent hundreds of bucks and weeks upon weeks trying to get it to work (which is finally did). He did it just to clean up the engine bay. Count me out of that one.

thermal 02-25-2006 09:22 AM

Yeah, with us Honda guys it's not really as bad as long as we use a stand alone.....

thermal 02-25-2006 10:24 PM

I'm still puzzled with the oil leak problem. After driving it more, it doesnt seem like my motor oil is going down. Further troubleshooting led me to think that maybe the tranny is leaking from the midshaft (half shaft) seal. If this is true, it will explain why I have oil all over the place. As the midshaft rotates, it slings oil all over the back side of the motor. I cant check the oil level on the tranny unless I drain it. But what I will do is use GM syncromesh this time since it has a distinguishing smell and color to it, unlike Honda MTF which is almost the same as a motor oil.....

FINALLY! I found the cause of the oil leak!!!!!! It was a pinched/cut o-ring on the PCV box.

Pics below includes the Tial 44mm WG, and the Honda motorcycle C.O.P conversion that I'm about to do. I also just received a phone call that the WG adapter came in. I will go ahead redo my WG set-up this week.

Update:

-Dump tube fabricated/installed/wrapped
-ATP Turbo Tial 38mm-44mm adapter flange installed

Igntion issues tho. I havent mess with the C.O.P yet, but my stock distributor went bad. We opened up the cap and discovered that the rotor screw came of and basically destroyed the cap internally. I'm borrowing another one from my tuner. We'll see what happens. Ordered a few more items. I will reveal later........

JDMFantasy2k 03-03-2006 10:12 AM

where did you find that wastegate adaptor? that's nasty

pdiggitydogg 03-03-2006 12:45 PM

gah
im just envious and wish mine would get moving faster!

Purchased the 38mm to 44mm adapter via my buddy BoostFed. He has an account at ATP Turbo.

Pat, if you only live close by, I'd be all over you trying get your shit expedited. I'm contagious man.... ha ha..... plus...

I finished the C.O.P harness. It actually looks better in "real life". I would've been running running this set-up already but the coils I bought were for a DSM motor instead... it is a little too short to reach the spark plug. It's okay tho, I'll just give it to my tuner since he tunes DSM's as well. I have another set coming.... the right ones this time :yup:

KwikR6 03-03-2006 06:53 PM

Fuck dude...that is sooo amazing.

thermal 03-03-2006 07:20 PM

Thanks bud :yup:

2000Pimpinex 03-04-2006 08:20 AM

WOW, car looks great. Awesome job on the rebuild.

thermal 03-09-2006 07:43 PM

thanks man.

I haven been super busy this week working on other people's car. I just got done rewiring an EK for a B18C1 service. I have more parts coming in. I wont say what it is right now. I'll just post pics once I get it done. I went back on the drawing board a few days ago. I'm making more changes before I dyno.

It has been very slow on my end. We installed a supposedly turbo "kit" on a 2001 Integra GSR 2 days ago. We also did some dyno tuning on a few friends. It has been nothing but running around all week. I'm exhausted. I have most of the parts for a newly improved set-up. Here is a pic of what I did today. I'll post the rest of the pics tomorrow. Below is the 86-93 Mustang throttle body. 75mm in size. Next to it is the 70mm RPM Services throttle body.

I've received these in the past few days. Fun begins tomorrow.....

*86-93 Mustang 75mm Thottle Body
*Edelbrock adapter plate
*Quaife Torque Biasing Differential (LSD)
*Precision 750hp intercooler

First pic is the comparison of the a 70mm RPM Services TB and the 75mm Mustang TB.

dabouncerx24 03-17-2006 12:16 AM

Mischief 03-17-2006 01:28 AM
