Neh, you'll be fine |
Moved to the geek section...
Anyone else want to fold? |
just downloaded it and am running it.
my 1800 is maxed out we'll see what it'll do. I leave this thing on ALL the time. Oh and I joined team 32 |
i think i got my ears caught in the setup
|
Quote:
Sweet! Glad to have you join. |
Quote:
huh? :loco: |
i can't setup the damn thing
|
Quote:
Did you follow the instrucions I gave? |
Quote:
Did you get the console or GUI version? |
GUI version. and it just locks in there.
|
Have you even gotten to the point of entering your username & team name?
Is it locking up after you attempt to start it for the first time? |
Quote:
i start it then it just locks up. i gotta use the task manager to close it down. |
Quote:
What did you set the core priority to? It should be set to low. SOmetimes it will try to default to idle/normal. |
when i woke up this morning it was on 71% but then 2 hrs later it was at 91% so I don't know if it completed one over night and started a new one or if my computer went into hybernation overnight (i have it set so it never sleeps).
Is there a progress tracker or anything (I haven't looked at it at all yet) I used to do seti@home (you know the search for extra-terestial Intelligence) But that seems a little less helpfull to mankind. |
Quote:
Its never really at a constant rate. Did you get the GUI version or console? http://folding.stanford.edu <- check your stats www.em-dc.com <- Electron Microscope It monitors the console version and the GUI version. |
Quote:
For the progress tracker, you can just open the DOS window that's folding. It will tell you the % done. Or, I prefer to go to www.em-dc.com and download EMIII to track. |
Quote:
Get the text console and EMIII like I recommended. Less compatability issues. |
I dl'd the console version....
I was actually concerned with how many chunks It had completed not the percentage of the chunk that's done. IE.. in seti@home it keeps track of how many chunks of data you've crunched. (i was up to 88 when i stopped). |
Quote:
The http://folding.stanford.edu site will tell you. Just search for your user name. |
Quote:
You can check the folding site, search for a program called StatsGrabber, us EMIII, or many other fold monitors to check your points. Each protein is worth different points, depending on complexity, etc. Find that info here: http://folding.stanford.edu/psummary.html |
hmm so after i installed it it doesn't tell me that it does anything. i have 2 console windows running and nothing chages there
|
Quote:
Just run 1 console. Check to make sure 100% of CPU is being used. Let it sit. Minimize it and check it again later. It will say it completed some frames. Best thing is to go to www.em-dc.com, download EMIII and let it hide the window and monitor your progress for you. |
that's the program that locks
how am i supposed to set it up ? |
Quote:
Try running EMIII with a -clear switch. That resets everything. It should work then. The creator also said that its possible for it to freeze for around 30sec and then be fine again if there are bad settings. |
So i saw it was for a good cause, bam, hopped on it... so now it's going.. I'll set my home machine up later, nd maybe others down the road.
Doesn't seem to be doing anything though. |
Quote:
can you check the stats for me ? i'm hondaman008 and i did like 16 frames so far. i'm just curious |
Sounds fun, I think i'll set it up when I get home
|
Quote:
Very cool, thanks for joining. It takes awhile to do anything, and a work unit can take over 24hrs to complete on a slower machine. Check your CPU usage. If the core is using 95+%, you're set! |
Quote:
Stats only reflect completed work units. You'll have to finish one first, and it takes a little bit for them to get posted. |
So 25 hrs later on an athlon 1800+ I have folded one work unit and am 63 percent done with the next.
Look at all that wonderful cpu power that was going to waste. |
does anyone know how to bring the program from the stealt mode ?
|
Quote:
Yep. It takes alot to do those sims. |
Quote:
Everything you want to know about EMIII: http://home.attbi.com/~wxdude1/emsite/help/index.html To answer your question, press and hold the scroll lock key for as long as 30 seconds until the program pops back up. |
Who's running EM...?
Is it worth setting up? |
Quote:
I am. Its easy to setup and well worth it. It will also monitor multiple computers across a network. |
Quote:
Yeah it is. Like 94_AcCoRd_EX said, its nice to monitor the computers on the network. That & it hides the console version. Definately a plus. |
But does the EM use up and clock %, cause the console version of F@H uses up 20% here and there?
|
Quote:
If you set it up correctly (priority: idle, cpu usage: 100%), the core won't use anything when you're using the computer and it will use 98-99% when you're not. EMIII uses very little cpu cycles and its well worth it for me to monitor the 3 folding machines I have on my network. |
Sw33t... The protien i'm working on will be complete on June 28th of 2003... LMFAO!!
|
Quote:
Huh? Maybe if you're on a 286CPU. The proteins have deadlines, listed in the link I gave Stefan. What speed CPU do you have? |
