I just wanted to take time out to rant and rave about the crappy state of my residence, which would be Virginia. Please feel free to rant and rave ( or praise ) about your own state after this post.

Tint, I just got a ticket, which sparked this ranting to begin with. I know cops want to be able to see the person inside the vehicle, just in case we all happen to be smoking up while we are driving, or the officer wants to be able to see if someone is pointing an AK-47 at them when they approach the car, but come on, I know Virginia is one of the largest gun running states in the country, but not all of us are carrying, and I know people here that have a hard enough time driving with no distractions much less trying to light up and drive at the same time. 35% in the back and 50% in the front could be lowered just a little, hell, go bother someone who is actually breaking the law. I have actually been in the situation where 2 people have been doing the dirty deed in the back seat, and I am really glad that they had dark tint, these two were not exactly something I wanted to see. Dark tint has its advantages!!! Let it be.

Ride Height, alright, this is another fun one, 14" from the bottom of the rear bumper...you have to be kidding....my civic barely meets that at stock height, so what if we want to drop it a little bit, what are they afraid of? They arn't going to be able to see how nasty my exhaust looks? They are so worried that we are going to tear up the roads, if they would fix the roads to where they were actually drivable without knocking your head every 1/4 mile, we wouldn't bottom out all the time.

I hope your state isn't as retarded as mine, stay tuned, more illogical laws to come.

lol...I'm sorry I live in Canada and I don't have many of these kinds of laws. We do have tint laws and this and that, but it's not THAT bad. :crazy:

I personally don't have problems here in Wa with cops on anything on my car. I have friends that get f*cked with but they ask for it...shifting every gear at 6k rpms and always racing around (stupid).

Ride height laws? damn...that sucks. We've got the tint laws in Michigan too. We also have a front ride height law where the headlights have to be a minimum of 10" but at that height its almost impossible to break it. Thats about all I can think of as far as a dumb law is concerned.

If you got a ticket for having tint too dark (i.e. illegal) then you were breaking the law. The cop did just what you want him to do, bust people who are breaking the law. Play with matches and you're likely to get burned. Tint laws are in place for a variety of reasons, one is for cops to see through the car but also if you lose visibility out of your vehicle it becomes more dangerous to drive. It kinda goes along with mirror laws, too few mirros and you'll get a ticket too.

The ride height thing is a little extreme. I wonder if a vette qualifies for it? Those are pretty damn low out of the factory and have problems with many speed bumps. I could make up reasons why they have the law, but I don't know. When did it become law? Was it 90's or later, or is it an old law sticking around from back in the day?

VA has some even more ridiculous laws. IIRC it's illegal to put a bathtub on the 2nd storey of a house. Of course nobody follows it, it's just an old law from way back when that never was taken off the books.

TX. Thou shalt drive a Maibatsu Monstrocity. 85% of vehicle noise must be from the roar of the mud tires, 15% from a Flowmaster. Ok, so I'm making this up.....

i agree with these VA laws. they do not bother me since i have a TX plate on mine. i'm not required to have a VA plate cuz of my military status, however.....since i'm refinancing my car to qualify on a mortgage loan which will require a VA plate, i will soon be susceptible to these VA inconvenience.

Ok, I agree with you, I know I was breaking the law, and yes I know why those laws are in place, I think it just pisses me off more cause they are so inconsistent, I mean I have been pulled over before and nothing was said about my tint. I know for a fact that the POS in front of me was breaking quite a few more laws than I was, so why did something as little as tint make the officer choose to pull me over and not the vehicle that was breaking more laws, and in my personal opinion, was a much bigger threat to other drivers on the road?

As for the ride height, it was last modified in 1993, so it is still pretty recent

TN isn't seeming to bad. 18 and 5% tint seem to be a problem in only one area of Memphis. I think more guys are getting tickets for distastefulness when they did their car rather than the car itself :pfft: Of course our police don't encourage street racing...but if you show you have a lil' something under the hood, they'll usually pull over the loser.

Ohio is 50% tint all around. Last I checked anyhow.

Yeah I've heard of the lowering law. CA has it too. This is what a CA Trooper explained to me. They say that if your car is too low and you happen to get a flat tire or something, it can become an out of control "sled". I can see that on some cars that are scraping flat pavement, but I think some take it to the extreme.

Why cops pull over one car over another boggles my mind. They do use an enormous amount of profiling in pulling over cars, which is understandable. They can not and do not see everything that goes on so they pick the car they think commits the worse offense, or at least they usually do. It doesn't matter that the car in front of you was driving at 100 mph a couple of miles ago, changes lanes without signaling, swerves in and out of traffic.....you're only breaking the law if you get caught.

It's an unfortunate reality that we all face. Fortunately I haven't had lots of problems with the po-po's, but I see a lot of bad and downright illegal driving all the time.....when there's no cop around to see it.

For the lowering laws, I could see the sled as a problem. Obviously the VA law was passed in response to the lowrider trend of the early 90's, mostly trucks at that time where I was living. Who knows why they actually passed the law, but I'd rather be in a lowrider when it blows a tire than in any SUV (too likely to flip/roll). I'd rather it not be my car as well.....

Ok, I can maybe see the sled thing if you are going 100 downhill in the pouring rain, you do have 3 other wheels on the vehicle, its not like the car is going to be sitting flat on its belly. I have personally had several flat tires in my civic that was approximitly 3.5" off the ground from the skirts and I didn't turn into an uncontrolable sled. I think the could lighten up on those a little bit
