I have an old kenwood cd player with no frills, just front and rear connections and a home theater sub that im not using that beats pretty good for its size, and I'm wondering if theres any way to hook the sub up in my car. I talked to a friend about it and he said the difference in AC and DC power would blow the sub. I dont have any pre-amp outputs on the HU, and the sub just has + and - wires, so how would i wire it? I know I know, i should just spend the money and get real subs if im gonna do it, but i thought i might as well try it for awhile. So, is it possible?

if you're planning to run the sub off the headunit's power, then may god be with it. you're going to have to push the headunit pretty damn hard (did i tell u its gonna be hot as shit?) to even move the sub. as for AC and DC being a problem, i have never heard such a thing. if it was so, then adire audio sub would have blow by now (home theatre sub but can be used as car sub also).

Exactly what GSteg said!

oh and AC/DC has nothing to do with this..

I wouldnt think it would take much power. Impedence: 6 ohms. Rated Power: 30W. Max. Power Capacity: 60W. There is no amp, no external power, just the + and - wires straight from the speaker connections to the outside of the enclosure. I dont have rears, so could i just wire it up to one of the rear connections on the head unit?

what about crossovers?

And if the sub's impedance is 6ohms, then it wont even get what your HU is rated at..

but try it out.. and let us know..
