Okay, here we go.
I'm driving about an hour and a half out to Moline Airport, to pick up my g/f from her Washington dc trip. It was either that or she would have to wait about 5 hours for her mom to get back from HER vacation. So I said no problem I'll come and get you. That was the plan.
I start out kinda late, but thats no big deal, I'll just make up time on the highway. Si I'm going an average of between 75-85, when I start to notice a bad bumpbumpbump. I pull off in a little blink and you miss it town, and check my air. I was low, and so I filled up my front tires. That was bad enough, but it gets worse...
I'm continuing up i74 and am only 30 miles away from the airport, and making decent time. I'm going about 80, when all of a sudden I hear a small pop from under the hood. The car lunges a bit, so I immediatly back off the gas. I pops again, lunges and does this three more times, as I'm trying to pull over. I get the shoulder and it stops dead.
After inventing many new and creative words. I try starting it. It turns, and wants to start, but it won't. more invention of words. I look under the hood, but don't see anything out of place. Luckily I had my moms cell phone, and I called home. A state cop came up behind me rather quickly, and was extremly helpful in trying to find a tow and or mechanic for me. To make an already long story short, I had to leave my car on the shoulder (you have no idea how hard that was) and go wait at the nearest rest stop for a flatbed truck to come and take my car back to Peoria.
The reststop was one of those strip down vending machine and piss hole places, but hey it was warm. I hung out there for two hours, plenty of time to try and guess what is wrong with my car.
Finally the tow truck guy shows up, and he was very friendly. We had a good conversation on the way back while my poor little car lay wounded on his huge rig. We drop it off in front of my house, and pay him the $170 towing fee. (I have no towers insurance) It was a reasonable price, for the distance.
I go to start my car just for kicks, and it runs like a champ. I hate my car.
So, my g/f still had to wait at the airport, now feeling terrible that she killed my car. I'm 170$ lighter and don't have a working car. I also feel bad I couldn't do something that I said I'd do. So...It's been a great night.
