View Full Version : Finally Decided to Do it!
Well, I finally made the decision...I just smoked my last cigarette and am quiting today...cold turkey. I did it once before and it lasted a year and a half. Hopefully I'll be able to stick with it. I was gonna wait until I got back to the States but I figure I have two weeks left so I might as well start now.

I quit a lot lately :(
but I dunno...I can quit and not need a cig for a long time then all of a sudden it hits me hard....not like a nic craving just the habit craving type deal...cause after 24hrs all the nicotine is outta ur system....
like tonight I almost smoked a full pack..heck I prolly did :(
I wish I could quit...just curious what did you smoke?
and congrats on ur decision to quit...I may quit tonight...but then again I got a full pack in the car (damn friends) ...so I doubt it
Why are the reasons you quit? I mean I know the whole death this is one but the others
1.) Cloths Stink
2.) You Stink
3.) Breath Stinks
4.) Yellow Teeth
5.) No one around you can breath
6.) Asthma (I was in the hospital like 12 yrs of my life and I smoke how stupid am I?) this only applies to peeps with asthma :-D

smoking sucks.....costs money that can go towards things that are actually worthwhile. people that smoke around me piss me off
I've been smoking for almost 2 1/2 years now since the last time that I quit and I've smoked everything from Newports & Marlboro Reds to Marlboro Lights recently. Thanks for the congrats. My reasons for quiting are:
1) It's getting too expensive
2) I'm tired of the smell
3) I'm tired of waking up in the morning coughing
Mainly the first one but I used to be in really good shape and then slacked off, starting eating bad, and started smoking. I just think it's time for me to start working out more consistently and get back in shape and smoking isn't the healthiest thing to do.

omg dude...same here
the cost isn't a big deal to me
I bum now I won't buy a pack..but I broke my own rule and bought a pack cause these mechanics broke my car and well I almost cried..but instead I smoked
But the whole in shape thing...thats one of my main reasons
I'm tired of being outta shape...and big time..I can't run the mile let alone like to the frigerator...its bad :( lol
Do u smoke when ur alone?
I normally smoke when driving....(big thing cause ur hands aren't really doing anything...cept turning and shifting and changing the radio stations but other than that...nothing) lol...and when I'm socializing

The only time I don't smoke is when I'm sleeping...seriously. I smoke whenever I get the urge and smoke more when I drive and even more when I'm drinking.
That's another thing...in case you don't know, I'm in Korea right now and I'll be going back to MS in two weeks. When I get back, I'm gonna have my car detailed and no one will be allowed to smoke in it...including myself.

my car doesn't really have an interior I keep tellin myself once I get interior no more....I just can't find interior :(
I quit for a good while but I dunno...just its really hard..it seems easy and I mean when ur not around other smokers its REALLY easy but as soon as ya see someone smokin ya want one..

congrats on the decision rob. i tried quitting and everytime i stop i start smoking even more. i think the only way to quit is if somebody chains me to the bed.
i've heard that if u stay in salted water the nicotine will get out of your sistem faster, thus reducing that withdrawal period.

That's great news Rob. Smoking is one of the worst habbits you can form. Many non-smokers don't like to hang around smokers, and plus cigs are too damn expensive.
Congrats

I quit two years ago...the first couple of days are rough, then the next two or three weeks are pretty bad, and after that it's pretty much coastin'.
Max
I smoke...and i'm thinking about whether or not i even WANT to quit...
I smoke...only on weekends though...hardly on weekdays...
But when i do smoke...it's like 2-3 packs a day...
Congrats on deciding to quit...i hope you stick with it!
Thanks...it's been hard...it hasn't even been 24hrs yet and I'm fiending for one...guess it doesn't help that 6 of the 10 people that I work with smoke so everytime they go out for a smoke break, I'm like  ;(
ooooh!
dude, when they go out for cig breaks...go with them, and don't smoke...just watch them.
If you're actually going to quit...that will be the deciding factor...
if you can handle watching people smoke without smoking one...you're set. Will power is the only power
I did that once already and I did fine for the first few minutes, then had to come back inside because I felt the need overtaking my will power....they say that if you can get through the first 24hrs then the nicotine is outta your system and it's just a mental thing after that......

I like watching people go outside in the freezing cold by themselves just to smoke. Actually its kinda pathetic.

Thanks for all of the support from everyone, it was appreciated. Maybe I'll try this again in a few days?...week? I dunno.......anyway....:smoking:

Ah, come on Rob, give it another chance. Don't give up so easily. Smoking is something you'll regret for the rest of your life, so stop now before the health problems catch up with you. I know its not that easy, but you can do it.
Have you tried patches or any of that stuff?

I know....I will...I really hate smoking but it's like I get stressed out if I don't....like yesterday I didn't smoke the entire day at work and it was getting to the point that when the phone rang, I would get pissed off  I was doing pretty good...I would just chew on a straw whenever I would get the urge....then last night I called my ex-wife to see about seeing my daughter when I get back and all that and to talk to her....well, I tell my ex to put my daughter on the phone and she (me daughter) gets on the phone and says "hello Robert"...yeah, my 3yr old daughter calling me by my first name....when my ex got back on the phone we had a 'little discussion' about that and by the time I got off the phone I was ready to kill something/someone...so, I went out, bought a pack of cigs, and lit up....oh well.........
no, I haven't tried the patch or the gum.....

Well, that makes things really hard. I know if I was in the same situation, that would make me want to have a 'little discussion' also. Maybe it would be better to try again when the stress factor isn't as high.
Take it easy

I will, thanks for the support man.
Rob
Aw man...that sucks....give it another go...
and if you have to...just slow your roll with the smoking...like...smoke 1 every other day or so...and get used to that...then try for like 1 every week or so...then 1 every 2 weeks...and keep goin like that...that may help too...
