So to what do you guys accredit the beginning of the Import Scene in the United States? For years it's been huge in Europe and Japan, but it has only begun to catch on in the last 5-10 years in the US.

Ideas?

i'd say the price. import cars havnt been around for a long time, and now there are some modern looking cars that are 10-12 years old with engines that have potential. there are enough import cars on the market for companys such as DC sports and greddy to make performance parts for them and not come up at a loss

I think you're right on with this one.

I think what really made it blow up was 'The Fast & The Furious'...seems like after that movie alot more modded imports were on the streets.......

I think the import scene was blowing up before the F&F. That's why they made the movie in the first place. The movie had many negative consequences though and caused an influx of ricers in all corners of the country. :ricer: ;(

I just know that being in a small town (Columbus, MS) the only thing that I would see around was Mustangs and pickups...maybe a few modded Hondas but not many...then I leave to come to Korea and go back 6 months later. Take my car out and drive around and there's like at least half a dozen Civics and a couple of Eclipses all modded up (not riced either). I was like wtf happened??

I know what you mean. I'm from a small town on the coast of Oregon. When I put clear corners on my car, I was the only one in town. It was weird, like nobody else knew about it. Now there are piece of crap rices all over with neon colored cars, huge wings, and the works. :pukey

ditto on that...I think I'm one of maybe 5 or 6 in Columbus that actually has a modded Honda/Acura and not :ricer:

same thing in my town. when i bought my first prelude, no one had a import, maybe 10 or 15 people actualy modded imports, now there are TONS of 16 year-old punks who have no engine mods, but yellow chickenwire in there grill, rims and altezzas.

most of the civs in my town have nothing done to their engine...most cars here just got a kit, and are dropped...it's pretty lame...but it's nice to know that io'll kick their ass when i start modding my civ.

I think a lot of it has to do with price too. The cars are so much easier to pay for then some of the V8s. Plus with the way gas prices are going smaller motors are more enticing.

Then add quality on top of that. Imports seem to be much better made then most domestics. Reliability is important when you dont have the money for a spare car.

Not to mention a lot of domestic cars are kinda ugly these days. (This is my opinion.)

Those are the reasons I think everyone has gone  over imports. :D

when did it explode? After Fast and the Furious....Yes, everyone's tired of people saying that but its true. It was like this big explosion that dropped old Hondas in everyones driveways...even mine.
:paranoid:
But I will admit that it was only coincedence (sp) I was planning on getting a Civic way before the movie...actually around the time Gone in 60 seconds came out and that civic kept up with the Porche. :D Thats why:pfft:
