Strange you brought this up. I'm putting either Mandrake or Redhat on one of my computers tonight. I've never used Linux before, so this will be my first try.

LMAO. i tried both of them, and redhat is by far the best.

Not trying to jack your thread, but thought you could help. I just installed a new Linksys router and can't seem to access ftp @ redhat.com. Any suggestions on how to get through?

yeah get a new router. is the ftp at redhat on port 21 ? cause if it's not you can say goodbye to ftp.

ftp better show up on port21 unless you change it yourself....I wouldn't want any crap that tries to deviate from the standard ports unless I tell it to do so.

I've had people recommend Mandrake over Redhat....but I don't really know. I was just reading about a new release of Redhat just being made, it sounded interesting. When I get a new 'puter I'll probably do the linux thing again.....now that I'm more familiar with Unix, when I go home and use the windoze system it sucks.

Red Hat launched today the 8.0 version, and i think it looks pretty tight. www.redhat.com i think i'm gonna dish out 150 to get the 8.0 proffesional.

Yeah, I read that the 8.0 was coming out today, so I'm going with that. Why dish out $150 for the pro version though? That's a lot of money.

Hehe, finally found an ftp server that wasn't flooded, and now I'm d/l'ing 8.0 @ 0.5kB/s :D

If its your first time, get Mandrake. You'll love the ease of setup & maintenance.

PS - THe linux FTPs get used alot. That's why you get slow d/l's.
