hi guys i got a question, has anyone ever been to an import car show that the procedes benefitted a nonprofit organization? i am trying to come up with fundraising ideas for 2 organizations, one is the local hippotherapy riding center. (physical therapy while on horses for special needs kids) and www.smasupport.com (leading genetic killer of kids under 2, this organization provides what the insurance companies deny due to the fatality of this disease, 1 in 40 people are a carrier of sma so dont think it cant happen to you) well anyways i am trying top come up with fundraising ideas and i thought maybe an import car show. do you guys think it would be profitable? how far would your travel to attend it if you would attend?
thanks guys!

Well I would travel about 300-400k max and it would have to be during some break (i.e winter break or spring break) since I have school!

wow thanks guys, i was kinda thinking it was a dumb idea, but i guess maybe i will go for it. i would like to plan it for in the summer. now i need to find a place to hold it at. i would love to do it at teh canfield fairgrounds liek teh hot rod super nats but i think they are going to charge a fortune for fairgrounds rental.
being that sma support is a national organization maybe we can get more than one car show location. if the first one is a success that is.
ok for my next question, fpor those that go to car shows.........give me some major pointers, such as what to offer and what to charge. remember we are a nonprofit organization.

my club just donated 2 months of our dues to a downsyndrom/lucimia hostpital/research center it was about 450 bucks i think. i know its not very significant, but it was more or less for a good cause. we gave up shirts and hats and a new tent for car shows... it really felt good doing it

HAVE A RAFFLE FOR DONATED PARTS FROM COMPANIES CALL EVERYONE OF THE MAJOR RETAILERS EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT YOUR TRYING TO DO AND FOR WHAT. GET THEM TO DONATE ANYTHING THEN YOU HAVE A RAFFLE FOR THE ASSORTED ITEMS (AS MANY RAFFLES AS POSSIBLE) THE COMPANIES USUALLY WILL BE PRETTY GENEROUS CUZ THEY CAN WRITE IT OFF AT THE END OF THE YEAR AS A CHARITABLE DONATION AND IT GIVES THEM REALLY REALLY GOOD PUBLICITY

ALSO CONTACT VENDORS B'CUZ THEY MAY BE WILLING TO DONATE A PERCENTAGE OF THEIR PROFITS. (or maybe even they're total income for the day) once again they can write this off at the end of the year.
If one vendor won't then don't go with them. get someone else.

also you should offer reciepts for donations so that attendee's can donate money directly and get a write off at the end of the year.

also the venue may be willing to not charge you at all or give you a good break (again they can write a percentage of it off)

YOUR BEST PLAN OF ACTION IS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A NON-PROFIT CHARITABLE ORGINIZATION

thanks guys for the good ideas, as for teh venue donating the grounds..........roflmao! oh hell no they are so money hungry! hell one of teh board members son became critically ill and they charged teh family to use one of teh buildings for a spaghettie dinner! money rules in my area, god i cant wait to move!

next thing i am asking is.......should i make it an import vs: domestic car show, a strictly import car show, or should it just be a regular car show. i want to attract teh largest crowd as possible. what is a typical enternace fee and do i have to get a special insurance for it?

thanks so much guys!

well have visitors as judges. have cards for every car and have them write opinnions on the car, then just count the points and you have a winner. can't you find like a park or something for the show ? or a HS parking lot ?

Hey Becky, how far would you be willing to travel to get this together??

how far would i travel to put a show on? depends on how sucessfull it would be. i would do just about anything to raise money and awareness for spinal muscular atrophy, in fact i made my bf put www.smasupport.com on the top of his race car. you wouldnt believe how many people will ask us what that is and a few times i have even gotten monetary donations. but back to your question.......i would probably travel anywhere in the usa.

and for teh comment of car show= hard work......nothing worthwhile ever came easy. but as of right now i am just getting ideas. and thanks for the idea of having it at a highschool! that is a great idea! i work hand in hand with teh local schools due to my job and i can almost guarantee i copuld get use of their facilities free.

sorry if i am annoying all of you with my simple minded questions.
best wishes to all,
Becky

not at all.. these questions keep us on our toes. just make sure to do lots of advertizing so people will actualy come out. ive seen a handful of really well put together shows jsut not have great turn outs because of lack of advertizing. you are going to need entry forms of some sort, trophys, judges, workers, vendors, food, give aways... all that, and you have the elements for a good show

the only reason why I'm asking is because it seems like everyone on the board is pretty spread out...I would definitely like to be apart of your show...especially if it's going to help a good cause....but I'm MS....4thGen is in FL....some in Ohio...some in Oregon...I just wonder where you would wind up putting this show together at....

and by no means are your questions simple minded or are they annoying us...you're just trying to get some advice/help and that's what these boards are for....

thanks guys, i am in ohio so the first show would probably be in my local area, but definately not for a while. we just had an import show and from what i heard there was major trouble. cars were being picked up and turned over and many many fights. i surely dont want that!

thanks again......becky

p.s anyone know where i can find entry form samples at? help! help! help! i am totally clueless!
