You'll never get as much all motor out of a D16Y, fully built, as you will out of a B18C, stock.

You COULD get 3-400 hp out of a d16 (would it be drivable or realistic or long lasting....no but it can be done)

if you built up the whole bottom end of your engine (crank pistons rods rings, block posting or block guard etc....) and the top end (valves, v-springs, retainers, cams) even with out boost or nitrous you'd SMOKE a stock gsr motor.

Is it worth doing all that work to get THE ABSOLUTE PEAK HP out of your little motor instead of swapping in a bigger motor which will appease your n.f.s. for a while then build up that motor to get better numbers that are more reliable.... NO

Go For The Swap but not cuz it's impossible to get hp out of a smaller motor. just cuz it's a better platform to start with if your going to poor all that money into a car.

even with a light build (polished crank, shot peened rods and higher compression pistons block guard) up to a d16 you could get more hp's than a stock gsr. (especially if the gsr beat (start up guarantee and will run well are 2 totally different things)

It all really depends on what you plan on doing with the car. What are your goals ? The b18c is a much better platform to start from then the sohc motor.

I intend to build the motor and race it. I race now with my civic but i want to be faster and i want it to be easier to find better parts for the engine.

3-400 hp, all motor, out of a D16? You're dreaming.

The fastest all motor Honda is the L'Natural CRX, running a 2500cc H22, making 250whp. The ballsiest B series motors I know of are making 240 (CR-VTEC), 225 (B18C), and 185 (B16A). 3-400 out 1.6L, SOHC? No way. I think it would be extremely difficult to break 150, maybe 175 whp, all motor. No one's ever tried, pretty much because it's a waste of time and money.

For the same price as a fairly comprehensive SOHC build (rods, pistons, cam, crank and head work, valvetrain, and labor), you could swap a B18C, and have more power for the same coin. On top of that, the B18C is going to have TONS more potential.

For the same amount of money you can have a better motor with lots of potential, rather than a mediocre motor that is pretty much maxed out.

LOL, I was about to post that information. Many people are ignorant to the fact that you can build up any engine if you want to spend the time or money.

Impressive. So someone has tried.

The rest of my argument remains intact. There's no way to get 3-400hp out of a D series, all motor.

And sure, you can spend a fortune building up a D series, or you can swap in a B series and have a car just as quick for half the price and headache.

this goes to the same equation along the lines of:
HP+Reliability+Drivability+Time= money

i'm all about the swap. would i build my turboed SOHC to get better time slips? ......NO, unless sponsorship covers me 100%. my advice is make a decission on how much power, drivability, reliability, time, and money you want to spend. keep us posted:)

yes it does 2ndGenTeg.....
of course that D series build is going to cost a lot - however to me, its a hell of a lot more impressive to be running 10's with a 1.5L SOHC NOTEC motor than with a B or H series.

I never said all motor

To add to the above, and the original question. You're wondering what to do with your engine that you pull. Well shit, that engine is perfect for people like me. I can drop 300 for it and drop it into my 89 Civic and gain 20hp over stock.

So you see, you can even make some money back on the deal. If i had a newer civic i'd pull the b16 swap. But for my 1000$ civic, the d16 swap is a better deal.

youd raise the compression to run boost? cuz you were talking about raising the CR.....so that hints you were talking about all motor.

124.4 MPH (March 2001/Carlsbad, Ca)

This is a quarter mile right?

Cause my car hits that speen... down hill with a tail wind, but it does.

I'm not even going to bother and point out the parts of my post you miss read. If you wanna pissing match you lost because i never said all motor in reference to the 3-400 Hp figure.

the all motor build (raising CR...) refered to beating a stock gsr.

you should read things more carefully before you start trying to shoot down what people say.
