I know the knob screws on to the top but what the little nut that comes with the knob for?

well if it has a screw then you screw down the new knob or just put it on over your shifter then you use the screws to hold it tight against the shifter to holds it in place and keep it from turning/spinning around...
Hope this might help....

hey,
if you have a scrw on then it should just screw on I think there is another way that they can go on and that is what the hard ware is for

What Whthnda said.
Put the nut on first, screw the knob on, and tighten the nut against the bottom of the knob.

Those kind of knobs make your shifter higher. I have a Greddy shift knob and it just screws in like the stock one. It also sits lower too.

Nah not really. My old knob was like that. Sat lower than the stock knob.
