Torque is a force the produces rotation to keep it simple. It can be measured by the product of the force and the perpendicular distance from the LOA.

HP at the wheels depends on the amount of loss experienced in a particular drivetrain. It will vary car to car.

torque over here in North America is messured in pound feet and thats at a one foot radius how many pounds of force is produced. the one foot gives it leverage i think. In europe its messured in newton meters if i'm not mistaken. Torque gives you that kick back when you floor it from a stand still and hp is what gets you moving on the highway. More tq you have the more likely your gonna spin your tires.

am i wrong here? can someone back me up here?

wet weather trick... to see where your power bands really are take of in first gear from a stop slowly adding more and more gas until the wheel brake lose the first time (for me its around 2500rpm) then reduce gas to stop spinning and start bringing the rpms up again... once you get above the rpms the wheels spun at try adding more gas, next time the wheels brake lose should be your hp power band. For me its around 4600rpm. let me know what you guys get.. now ofcourse i can spin all the way to red buttheres really no point in that.

actualy hp is a dirived number.. tq is the real power:

HP= (tq*rpm)/5252

if you notice on EVERY dyno, a engine produces the same hp and tq at 5252rpms.

whatever rpm your at. lets say your making 200ft/lbs@ 2000 rpms

(200*2000)/5252 = 76hp

when i had my 93 civic hb... i sware i had less then 90 hp... i would get ready to do a burn out.... i would lift up the e-break... put in the clutch... shift to first gear... rev the shit out of the motor.... and just dump the clutch... skerrrrrrrt.... (on 13's :D ) and i would have to let in the clutch again or i would stall it... i didnt have that much power to keep the wheels spining... it was pretty imbarssing... :rolleyes:

umm i think i have roughly 155 horse...havent dynoed it yet...honda....are u sure u only have that much horse...i swear i read at this website the accords...(exr) at least as 145 stock...im not sure about ur Lx ..i think it is..shouldnt be Much difference...?

that formula doesnt work dude.. if my engine puts out 225ft/lbs@2800 rpm and 210hp 5200 rpm

then it should be

(225*2800)5252=119 and thats bs!

no dude you have that much hp at 2800rpm. you have a different torque # at 5800rpm

you can't hit your max with an auto b/c it's located at such a high rpm. my car, for instance, has a stock max of 135hp @ 5050 RPM and 153 ft/lb of torque @ 3750 RPM. most autos shift somewhere around 3000rpm.

i think it all depends on how to drive your car dude, mine shifts anywhere i tell it too. Just gotta learn who to tell her gentally :) its all about how fast you put the gas down and if you hold i there, i can get my car to shift at any rpm with my auto.. maybe its just me though.:cool:

the formula is for findong how much power you have at that rpm. your only making 119hp at 2800rpms. turst me, its the way they figure out HP. cause hp is just a calculated number anyways.

ok so if @ 5200rpms i'm putting out 190ft/lbs tq does that mean only 188hp is hitting the wheels? but my engine is rated @210hp would someone walk me through this?

can someone confirm this?

yup. ive read something very simalar to that, but it was more in a explanation, than a question and answer. that one was easyer to understand. a flat, hardly changing curve is MUCH better than a high spike on either end, then tappering off.
