ha, my current school doesn't tell you how much your books are - they include them in your tuition and just hand them to you at the beginning of each quarter - i know we're getting reamed. ...not to mention the fact that i already had 3 of the books we used and they MADE me take the new ones anyway.
i also have a class where the professor just gives us photocopies of another book and doesn't teach us anything. she hands them out and then surfs the web while we read her illegal reproductions. oh how i *loooove* paying $1500 to get photocopies of a book that i could have bought for $20. oh, and did i mention that the photocopied book has nothing to do with the course?!?!

I had to get 2 electronics books, 2 lab books, a tech math book, and an english book. It ran me $490, and I still have to buy another $40 book! These books are not that great, where do they get off charging that?! stupid...

This might be a little bit redundant, but I felt left out of the whole "here's how much my books cost" loop:

accounting: 114
econ: 80
legal and ethics: 160 + 15 for an access code
calc: 53 (i got so lucky i found this online, used. it was 112 in the store)

Oh, and get this: last semester, i had to take a computer class that was the biggest bullshit ever. I read up on terms such as harddrive, floppy disk, and memory..., etc. The book was 110 and came with a password that each student had to have in order to take the tests. My brother and I each had the same class and we both had to pay over a hundred dollars for a stupid password. We never opened the books.

By the way, this semester was the least I ever had to spend on books.

thats just stupid. Another case of textbook makers trying to overuse technology. Passwords and crap should be used for security not to extort money from people, and especially students.

Don't even bother with those rudimentary computer classes - they are a waste.

But see what ticks me off is that we have about 5-6 book stores in town and all the books are the same freaking price!! Damn college people.

Oh, I see. That would make sense, but @ my bookstore, the textbooks stay roughly the same price all year.

Thats good...some people are dicks though...they know people need books....so they make it cost more

it does suck...but it's called staying in business. The student services at my school (who run the bookstore and just about everything else on campus) won't let any other types of restaurants or businesses come within like 3 or so miles of the campus. So in turn they know that the students will go there to buy their stuff. It's sorta like in retail....Womens jeans are like $10 more expensive than mens cuz the manufacturer knows that the chicks will pay the price.

I swear my school is run by socialists! But oh well...I know that I'm getting just as good of an education there as I would at a big name school and not paying as much in tuition. So what do ya do.....
