i was looking for aem short ram intake reviews and stumbled across this product . im just wondering if anyone has used , seen , or heard about it and if it is any good . the site is www.spiralmax.com . i think its supposed to go inside the intake tube if i read it right and i guess its supposed to swirl the air in faster . just not sure if it actually does any good . thanks for any info .

thats a knock off of the tornado, which from what i hear is a waste of money. its big thing is that it spins the air just like a "jet engine". I hate to break it to them but we dont have jet engine's so comparing the 2 is rediculous. There was a car made back in the 50's or 60's that had a jet engine. The only thing I'd think it would do is add a restriction to the air flow, resulting in a loss of power. But hey, don't take my word for it. Try it and see if it works.

Bah, take my word for it; it doesn't work. I tried one on my '88 Accord LX, and I gained 2 mpg but no gain in performance. I wouldn't waste $60 on it. As the old argument goes, if it worked, wouldn't automobile engineers have used it on our cars already?

Then there's the saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

anybody ever dyno those tornado/spiralmax thingamabobers? i heard of people gaining more mileage but does it really gain power? somebody should write import tuner or other car magazine if they can dyno it.i think it would be interesting to see the results...if any..

Actually, a friend of mine had one installed on his 91 Integra LS. A week before the install of the tornado he had his car dyno'd and a week later he was having cams and cam gears installed so we went back to the dyno. Before he had the cams and gears were installed he had the dyno run again and the hp did increase by 3hp. I still argue that the increase was caused by the cooler air of the day as it was 9 degrees cooler but he swears by it. Honestly, I wouldn't risk the chance of having a piece of that thing break off and get sucked into my motor, though he never had a problem with it I was always nervous about it.
Well, that's my experience with it. If 3hp is worth the risk of breaking a $2,500 motor then by all means go out and pick one up.

doesnt the cone filter spiral the air anyway?

i doubt the cone spirals the air, it just lets more air in..

no, beause of the filters gap in the end combined with the incoming air from the sides of the cone pushes and spins the air that comes from the end, which in turn spins all the air as it gets sucked down the tube
