Okay gang, I posted this on Style Judge (http://www.stylejudge.com/forums/) but thought I'd rally it a bit over here as well.

I finally broke down and bought Counter Strike yesterday. Now, what I want to know... who's gonna teach me how to do some serious butt whooping? I need help! :crazy:

I can suggest some tactics for ya but to learn how to play you have to have 3 things at first

a.) a good connection
b.) a good mouse and keyboard
c.) a good monitor and video card

increase your resolution so it's not to big or small (min'es around 800*600 on the game)
put it to opengl mode
this is all in settings

now with game tactics I'l get back to ya, I'm a bit busy now

I know not how to play the game...as it didn't work on my damn computer...but i can probably hook you up with some peeps that know how to play.

What's the deal with this - I bought the retail version of CounterStrike, but I can't connect to any games. I forget what the message is, but I read somewhere that I need to download the upgrade for the retail version (like 105 meg file). What's the deal with that?

yeah, lol you gotta dl the patch...just go to kazaa, or www.counterstrike.com to download it

Edit- It's either www.counterstrike.com or www.counter-strike.com
I'm not too sure...try both links

The reason for that is that they came out with MANY patches to the game since it came out. It's like 4 years old you know.
So they changed alot of stuff around for your benefit actually. Many thigns are better/run faster.

Have the patch downloaded and installed (finally).

Now working on downloading the maps. It's unreal what a chore this has been. Most download links from the counter-strike site are either 404 errors, or link to sites that require registration. The one site had a 45 minute wait for downloads. :o

At least that part is finished. Having a little trouble with the map downloads though. The only link that works is moving at a snails pace. It's been about five minutes and it's only 40% complete. *sigh* The price a person has to pay in order to waste countless hours online... luckily, I'm dedicated.. ;)

So juv - you gonna teach me how to play this blasted thing?

You don't have to download maps eh. At least I didn't. The one I got came with default set of maps, and if a server was running a map that I didn't have, the game would download it for me.

Basically will describe the way the game works and has section called tips that should help you out.

other than that, it's just in time and lots of playing (if you do that) that you will get skill.
