With an importech CAI I ran a best time of 17.1 @ 81.5mph tonight :pukey

My best time is 16.8@82mph...and that was all stock!

What the smell happened??? The trap speed seems pretty good. The only main difference I can see is that it was about 10degrees hotter this time than the last time i ran. And my tires have just a little less tread than last time.;)

BTW, 2001 Civic EX 5-speed, Importech CAI

you bascially answered your own question difference in temp, tires. what about your shifting and launching were they consistent?

Yeah you're only talking about 3/10's of a second, that easily can be attributed to shifting or air temp. A CAI isn't really going to make you that much faster.

Is it a true CAI, e.g. sucking air from outside the engine compartment, or a short tube setup???

there's not really anywhere on the 2001 civics where you can put a true CAI. I ran the car with it short ram and with it down at the very bottom of the engine compartment where air comes in.

Why didnt you just run it in the bumper?

post a pic to show me where to run it...assuming you know what you're talking about.

Haha- its racing rice... you will find he knows most of what he talks about... yeah, temperature is a huge factor. I ran 16.5 back in the early spring... the last run I ran a miserable 16.7, and that is with better gearing too... heh yeah it was also about 25 degrees hotter... oh well cant wait for january so I can get some at least decent times (for an N/A SUV)!!!

FOR EVERY 3 DEGREES CELCIUS TEMPERATURE DROP YOU GET A 1% INCREASE IN OUTPUT

as far as where to put the cai there should be a whole underneath the stock airbox that feeds down into the passenger side front bumper. it goes there.

and you said it was mounted
"down at the very bottom of the engine compartment where air comes in."

Are you talking about directly next to the header?

The air box doesn't go into the fender or even close to it. The "cold air" kits...more like hot air kits...run the filter down to an opening at the bottom of the engine compartment near the radiator fan. This is a 7th Gen car.
