Window Tint Question

How do you do it? Is it a better idea to have it professionally done, or are they just going to use the same window film I could buy? $20 sounds a lot better than $170 (thats what this one place charges...) What is the best way to remove old tint film?

Also, does it mess up the tint job if you put it over the defroster "grid"?

If anyone knows of a good resource for this, please let me know.

IMO you should get it done professionally. they know alot more about what they're doing and if they screw up..they pay for it...if you screw up...yea..u get the point. Oh and to get old film off, well you might be able to just peel one corner up and rip it off. But then theres the glue stuff. Just get some ammonia, rub it all over it, and while its still damp, take a razor and scrape it off....once teh glue absorbs some of the ammonia it should just peel off when you go at it with the razor. May take about 30 mins to do....but its better than the extra $20 they charge to do it....

i agree here get it done professionally $20 is cheap but the stress and headache afterward isnt worth it ON ANY HONDA VEHCILE DO NOT USE RAZORS ON BACK WINDOW U WILL DAMAGE THE DEFROST LINES . U HAVE TO USE OLD FASHION ELBOW GREASE AND TAKE UR TIME BACK WINDOWS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE !!:)

I'd also recommend getting it done professionally. They tend to carry high quality films, higher quality than what the average shop will have. They also should guarantee their work, which could save you lots of time. Ask around in your area to find a good shop.

Removing old tint is a little bit of a pain on everything but the back window, on the back window it's a serious pain. If you do it yourself make sure you're extremely careful not to tear up the defroster, and as already stated, do NOT use a razor on the back window.

ok thanks guys! Yeah it would probably be a better idea to have pros do it, because I tend to get frustrated easily. I'll call around and ask some of my friends.

yeah, and the tinit pro's use is 99% of the time much better than the crap you can buy.

Definately have it professionally done. You will be glad. Doing it yourself is challenging if your not an expert at it. Pay the Xtra money and have it done right.

Yea have it done. A few of my friends and i bought some tint from autozone and tried it on this kids spec v. Its a pain in the ass and just by looking at the tint i could tell that the stuff the pros used on my car was 100 times better. Plus i have a lifetime warrenty.:)

When you have to register your car.. or actually when your driving it, cant you get busted if the windows are two tint, i hear you can do the black windows, just not the front ones..is there a way around this, how much can you tint them, i live in california.. are rules different here?

i've heard the only legal way to get your front windows tinted is if you get authorization from your eye doctor. If bright colors are too much for you too take and it inhibits your driving, then he can suggest you have your windows tinted. good luck trying to get a doctor to do that though....

yeah, I'm going to have the back three tinted professionally, they quote about 100 bucks for it, so its def worth it. fixing morte important things right now though...

yes the docs note is true but i was also told by an officer i know that it makes that car illegal to drive at night if u have the windsheild done im not sure about the sides

the law is ( in ga) is that if you stand on one side of the car and look thru, you should be able to see strate thru both windows....
