boost controller quest.

Well, I've started the long journey of saving up for turbo...and I've been trying to figure out the costs. $3000 for the drag t3/t04 hybrid kit w/all the goodies included. Now I figure spark plugs/gauges/labor/etc for installation...will put me up around $3800-$4000....now I'm concerned about the boost controller. Basically when I first get the turbo I don't want to run high boost, I'd like to keep it low. Can I go without a boost controller for a while, maybe like half a year??? And how much boost will the Drag turbo kit come with?? I can't find how much boost it runs w/o a controller. If possible I'd like to get up and running with the whole kit and labor being around or under $4000, and I know a controller will put me way over that mark. I want to be safe about it, but if possible I'd like to not have to buy a controller at first. I'm perfectly fine with only running on 5 or 6 psi or whatever it comes at....any ideas?

you can do without it you don't plan on upping the boost. it would be safe for you to purchase a turbo timer. they usually come out the box with 6-7 psi. don't quote me on that though

The DRAG kit is rated 7-9 psi. You can adjust it to a little more or a little less though.

Yeah I'm getting a turbo timer anyways...forgot to mention that. If the kit comes with 7-9ish, I'll be fine w/o a controller. thanks! I can't freakin wait till I can shift and here IMO the most beautiful sound in the world..pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....time to go work work work work.....

yeah, do not worry about the boost controller. it's not a vital issue. for the most part, the only time u need a boost control is when you want to raise the boost....... another thing......bro, i strongly advice that you install everything yourself. it is not hard! it's a kit, it should include everything. the hardest part of this install is the oil pressure supply line. everything else is a cake walk. time consuming but not really complicated. just make sure that you do all your research. think about it, you'll save close to $1k. you can put that $1k to other mods......

I'm not sure If I trust myself or my friends to install it. I've heard most probs with turbos come from either a bad install, cheap parts, or not letting it idle when starting or stopping. I'd love to save that 1000 bucks, but I'm not sure if me and Tightteg could do it all ourselves.....installing the intercooler....all the oil lines and stuff......i don't think soooo, maybe i'm wrong, but I'll start researching just in case.

Id save the money and do it yourself. its not hard at all. Stevie Wonder could probably do the install.

read the thread i posted for the installation of the GReddy turbo under the "step by step" forum. that should cover about 90% of the installation procedure. u may be looking at a drag kit, but installation wise, should be about the same with exception of the injectors....
