Hi everyone. THis is my first post here, and I just had some questions, and Id appreciate any replies.

Im pretty much decided on getting a used Civic sedan, and its not going to be anything older than a 1999 model.

Anyways, Id really like to get into the world of Civic mods. I really have no experience doing mods, and no real knowledge of mods that can be performed on a Civic.

I know tho that I probably wont do any engine mods, Id just like to do some exterior ones, like add a spoiler, change the wheels, change the lights for sure.

So, my questions ..... say for example I wanna change the lights. I just go to a mod store and pick up any lights that I like, or do I have to make sure that they fit the Civic, etc ??? Like, where can I do my research on those sort of things before I walk into the store ? The same goes for wheels, and rims .... Also, can I install lights by myself, or does it have to be given to a garage ??

Basically Im a newbie, and Id just like to know what I can do, what I need to look for before I make any mods .... and also if anyone has any good links on intros to Civic mods, I would really appreciate those as well.

Thanks a lot to everyone who (seriously) replies.

Well welcome to the boards,

Good pick on the first car, though i'd say be sporty and get a coupe, but that's my worthless two cents.

Anyway, exterior Mods are the easiest, and if you have a buddy, and some time, and patience, you can do it all your self.

you can buy projector headlights from a shop, or online at various stores, and EBAY ! but you will need the ones that fit your EXACT car... year, civic, sedan/coupe, stuff like that, anyshop can tell you if they have them, and on ebay, they always list what models the lights fit. There pretty simple to install .. you just take off the front bumper cover, (i think on 99) ... and take off the old headlights and put in the new ones. The whole process only involves a phillips head screwdriver and maybe some bolts.

you can add fog lights really easy too, just pick em out, and make sure they fit where you wanna put them, then you need to follow the wiring directions, and you will need a set of crimpers. and you will also need to drill a hole in the front bumper to mount them. A little harder but still well worth it

When shopping for wheels you will need a 4 x 100 lug pattern, very common, any wheel shop can help... DO NOT BUY FROM WHEELMAX . COM

Any other question feel free to ask, we are generally not newbie bashers here.

Welcome to the boards
Happy Honda'ing

Thanks man !

Im think sedan cuz coupe increases my insurance ;-) ... damn insruance bastards !

Anyways .... question bout tires n rims .... can I not jus go out and find some rims that find the tires that come with the car itself ? Like , I dont need to get new tires to get rims right ??? And whats the deal with like 14' and 17' ... how do I know what I can get ?

And another thing jus popped into my head .... can i install the spoiler myself ?? Its probably pretty complicated anyways, its probably better to give it to a shop ... but yeah, just let me know.

Thanks 1nce again.

rims...I'd say 17' for the civic would do.
And when you buy bigger rims, you need low profile tires, meaning you need new ones again.
installing the tires, I really don't know as I have never done it.

Spoiler CAN be done, but I think it might be more professionally done at a shop.

Hey man, i've seen some kick butt sedans... i prefer the coupe too, but you definitely have potential there... any idea on color? my friend has a 98 sedan silver with konig verdicts in black opal... looks GOOD as hell... (I'm not saying that juv is against sedans... don't take it that way...) but i feel for you on the whole insurance thing...
