Well as the title says, it just stopped working. That's about all I can tell ya. But hear's the lead up.
---
It had been raining here and there all day. But as I left work (about 9pm or so) it was really coming down. This was flash flood type stuff. I didn't think much of it since it wasn't at the level to make it un-driveable.

So I carry on cautiously. I'm following a Ranger on the way home when I notice him slow way down. He mows through a huge puddle (I'm talkin' 2 lanes worth of puddle). It didn't seem deep so I followed him. I made it safely. Well another comes up. I don't think much of it since I was feeling good about the last puddle. So I slowly drive through. THUD!
---
Yep. That's all she wrote. Wouldn't crank over. Just a sudden stop. Still had full power to all accessories. The tow truck guy even tried to jump it (even though I said it didn't crank over). I had it towed to the dealership that was about 100ft away.

So any thoughts on this? Any ideas on what I should do? ANYTHING?!?;( ;(

maybe you got water in the distributor. if that happens you can say goodbye to starting the car until it dries out

uhhh oooo, time to put the stock intake back in,m and i just installed it. hope this is not but you might have hydrolocked the engine. if u had the bypass valve AEM might hgave to pay for a new engine.

Nope no bypass valve. And no stock intake either. *sigh*

The AEM sticker says 16" of water. This wasn't even near 16".

dude i don't know but i did not have any luck with aem so far. in the instructions it told me to make the hole towards the rear of the vehicle, and i made it and the cai did not fit. i had to make it towards the front of the car, and i had to bang the wheel well to make the damn thing fit

blah blah blah, theres no way you got enough water in your engine to completely destroy it. If you get it started and drive around the water in there might destroy it but all you need to do is wait a day for it all to drain down to the oil pan. Change the Oil!!! It should work just fine after that....

Friend of mine sucked water into his intake and it bent a rod, but it would still start, just made some really funny noises..

He didnt have his inner fender in.

You would had to suck up a lot of water to kill it that bad.

Well I just went up to the dealership. I asked them if they had had a chance to look at my car. The guy said the were swamped adn that it may not be til Monday. UGH!

So in one last attempt, I tried to start my car. Guess what? Still didn't crank over. Seems like the starter is gettin juice though. BTW, last night I looked at the distributor. It was bone dry. So I doubt I got water in it.

I don't see how I could've sucked up enough water to kill my car. With my luck, its gonna need a rebuild........

maybe you killed the starter only. who knows. I don't know if this applies to you, but on my old subaru i had a sensor for the clutch, and when it was getting wet the car wouldn't start. i don't know how i found it, but i fixed it and never had problem till i got rid of the car

I think Ben still has his B18B that he bent the rod in. Sounds like a good Turbo swap.. Or better yet, take the head off yours and put on that..

Heh. I dunno about that. I don't really know what I'm gonna do. I jsut hope insurance will cover it if its overly expensive. If they don't I'm pretty much screwed. I can't imagine that this will be a cheap rebuild. Of course I don't know "definately" that its hydrolock. Just a real bad feeling it is.

Hopefully you didnt scare the cylinder walls, chances are you bent a rod or two, if hydrolock is the issue. So your looking at atleast replacing some rods, You may have/want to do pistons/rings too.

Well its confirmed.
HYDROLOCK
The tech said it was completely locked up. Apparently the insurance company is looking for a new engine for it too. The tech also mentioned that the insurance companies usually total vehicles like this.;(

Man it would suck if my car got totalled. Ugh. I don't know what to do.

Let this be a lesson to all of you. If you do get a cold air intake, get the bypass valve. I didn't drive through 16" like AEM's sticker said. This was at most 7".......

Please do. I'd hate for anyone else to have this happen.

i still don't get why the insurance company considers the car totaled. the engine and labor should be less than 11g's or how much your car is worth. btw i just ordered my bpv tonight, and if the weather is shitty tommorow he cai will be replaced by the old plastic ghetto short ram intake( removed airbox and filter tied with tiewraps.

Is your car lowered cause that would take away from AEM's recommended 16". I'm going to assume it is and that would be like driving through near a foot of water, why risk it? I've driven through plenty of normal puddles and never had any problems.

Its dropped .75" not nearly enough to void AEM's " 16" " BS.

But on another note, they are replacing the short block and basically any other parts the Honda tech needs. Somehow some valves got bent too. Not real sure how it happened but whatever.
So I'm pretty much getting a new engine.....

at least you don't get a weedub for now ;) j/k

Well after they get done its pretty much gonna be a new engine. I need to go in and talk to the tech on Monday to see what he says. Insurance companies always blow smoke.....

The Honda tech said he's replacing the short block & all the valves. He wasn't 100% sure that that was all he needed either. He told me he needed to get it running to be able to tell if anything else was damaged.

On a good note all the parts have a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty since they're brand new.

this happend to my cousin i think he said he blew out a few pistons on the engine but im not sure. This was in a cavaleir so maybe you lucked out and all it needs is a day to dry.....

I didn't luck out as far as damage. It got a new short block & valves. Shortblock = pistons, rings, rods, water pump, etc. Everything below the head.

But since my insurance company rocks, I did get lucky.

Progressive.....
