View Full Version : will i have to reset my ecu if i get an intake ?

i was thinking of getting an aem intake to hold me over untill i get some more money for parts . will i have to reset my ecu or get a performance computer chip to compensate for more air coming in . thanks .

No need for a chip, you can reset your ECU if you'd like, but its not manditory.

ok thanks . how would i go about reseting the ecu if i decide to , or is this something i should let a mechanic do .

this is what i recommend to reset the ECU.
1) start the car without pressing the gas and run for 5 minutes or until it idles.
2) turn off the car
3) disconnect the negative terminal of the battery
4) wait about 5-10 minutes
5) reconnect the negative side of the battery
6) restart the car without pressing the gas and let it idle.
i recommend that you reset your ECU each time you get a performance mod, especially if it regards to Air, Fuel, and spark. resetting the ECU will allow for compensation with the upgrade. it is NOT NECESSARY, but i do recommend.

ok , it will probably be about a couple weeks cause i just spent alot of my money on a stereo . also any suggestions on a fairly quiet cat -back exaust system . thanks .
