i recently put a skunk2 intake manifold on my 2000 civic si and now when the engine is cold it takes longer to start. is this because i have too much air and not enough fuel? the fuel system is stock. do i need more spark from the ignition system? or is this just normal operation? thanks

I have a 96, when I put a Ractive intake in my car is screwed things up. Mine doesnt have a problem starting, mine just seems slugish at the lower RPM's. Im thinking that since Im getting more air into the engine I need to run the car alittle richer, but thats just an idea? Its ticking me off though cause if I floor it at around 2 grand it goes no where, its only at about 4,500 it picks up and goes. Are you having that problem too or is it just the start up problem?

yes i am having that problem also. with mine though if i rev the engine to about 3 or so and drop the clutch it launches just fine, but if i try to start slowly mine is sluggish till about 4k also. not too much of a prob actually but yeah i do think running more rich would help the prob 100%. if you dont have an afc already they are awsome when it comes to adjusting fuel and air. i'm getting one this weekend. oh well i guess i'll have to deal with the slow start till i can afford the fuel and ignition up grade.

I would say fuel system. How much was the Skunk2 intake manifold? did you notice a difference in hp at higher rpms? thanks

did you guys try resetting the ECU?

resetting the ECU is a great thing to do.

yep i disconnected the battery and let the computer reset itself but its still acting wierd. when accelerate smoothly (not getting on it too hard) it hesitates at like 2500-4100 rpm. anybody know what this could be? i checked the vacuum hoses and could not find any noticeable leaks. i checked the intake manifold gasket and can not feel any air coming from there either. could it be just cuz of not having enough fuel? 02 sensor may be??? knock sensor throwing the timing off??? any ideas please, its pissing me off having a car that does this crap. AND TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION YES. as soon as vtec kicks in i can feel a VERY noticeable pull from the engine more so than before the intake manifold. i think a fuel system and ignition upgrade to go along with the air is needed.

Well once you get your AFC you should be able to figure out the issue. Of course a cheaper way to find out if it is in fact the air to fuel mix, is to get an A/F gauge.

Didn't you post something about a knock earlier?

yes it was making a knock but it seems to not be doing that as bad anymore. may be that the knock sensor sensed something and my timing is retarded too much at midrage rpm's

make sure that the ECU is reset properly. to reset, this is what i recommend:

BTW, if you guys/gals are getting an A/F gauge or any gauges made by autometer, get it from PEP boys. it's almost $15 cheaper here where i live at.........

Pep Boys has Autometer?!? Sweet. I need to go get some car wash stuff so I might end up picking up a few..... ;)

Which ones do you have? How do you like them? And finally, how was the install?
