i was messin' with my 2000 civic si today at the shop and i realized a loud knock coming from the #1 cylinder area. does this mean i floated a valve or is the piston just working harder than the others? if anybody knows what a floated valve is and sounds like can you let me know??????????

When you float a valve it means that you revved your engine too fast in a way that the valve spring doesn't have enough force to keep the valve on the cam. If you spin your cams too fast, it basically makes the valves jump off the cam lobe. I am not sure exactly if that is your problem or not, but who knows.

Ya what she said. Floating wont make a knock all it will do is slow down the engine. Since the valves are not working properly then the engine is not making power and it will have to slow down to a point where they will work properly.

Ummm just a little advice.....DONT DO THAT ANY MORE!!!!!

i was just putting on a skunk2 intake manifold and noticed a knock. prob. just some crap oil or something. or maybe just a honda thing. my engine speed sure hasnt slowed any so it must not be anything serious. still goes to 8k rpm just fine. thanks for all the help guys!
