How's it going?
I'm not big on messing with the engine in my civic as it has alot of miles on it and i want it to last for a while, but i love messing with stereo electronics gizmos and such.
i'm wondering if anyone knows of a good DIY for installing a push button engine start, or if anyone has done this and would be able to tell me a little bit about how much work it is... etc

thanks
Sean

any push button switch will work, most use the s2000 button. What is does it one wire comes in that is constant 12v or ignition 12v, and then a wire goes from the switch to the starter wire, and when you hold that button down, the starter wire is fed 12v just like when u crank it with the key..

thanks,
i know the basics of how it works, it's pretty simple actually
i was more wondering if you would just pull the ignition wire from where it currently is and hook that to the switch or if you would just tap that wire and run it to the switch?
i suppose that either way would work, depending on if i wanted to still be able to start it by turning the key or if i wanted to exclusively use the button

i'm hoping that i can dig up a DIY on someone else that has done this just to get an idea of what others have done

thanks though

I don't think you can exclusively use the button... you still have to have your key in.

I think that you could rig it so that you could use the button exclusively, it would be esentially like hot wiring it (i have never done this, but if it's anything like the movies)
i don't think i would do this however because it would make the car much easier to steal, and honda's are allready too prone to theft, i've had mine broken into once and had a stereo stolen

anyway, still lookin for a DIY or pix of others installs

thanks for the reply

Don't make it start w/o the key... your car will get jacked.

What BC was saying (correct me if I'm wrong) is that when the key is turned, it sends a 12V signal that starts the car, blah blah. Put the button inline with this so that it needs to be pressed to start.

just tap the ignition wire and starter wire, don't disconnect it from stock
